A shower for every personality

Aug 27, 2019

Ever had a bad shower, and felt really unsatisfied by the experience? Perhaps because the water pressure was just not right, or the jets of water were too sparse? Or perhaps the water temperature kept fluctuating so you kept either getting a cold shock or scalded?

Chances are, different aspects of a shower experience will bug each person differently – whether it’s the water pressure, temperature, or even the cleanliness of the showerhead. And that’s probably an indicator of what’s most important to you in your daily showering routine, and perhaps even your personality. And why deal with an unsatisfactory shower every single day anyway? Maybe if you took a minute to consider what kind of shower you like best, and fit your bathroom to suit that preference, then every shower session could be the highlight destressor of your day.

Here are 4 different personalities that you might identify with:

1) The Eco-conscious High-flyer

Do you often find yourself craving a luxurious shower experience to relieve stress after a long day, but don’t want to waste water and harm the environment? While rain showers may seem like the most luxurious yet water-wasting form of a shower, the good news is that some of them actually use less water than a regular showerhead. All you need to do is find the right ones.

For instance, the American Standard EasySET Exposed with Integrated Rainshower Kit incorporates Airnergize technology, where every single water droplet is infused with air. That way, even though less water is being used, the pressure of the water flow is not compromised, and neither is the shower experience.

2) The Creative Spirit

If you’re the sort who loves customizing your home environment, then the bathroom is probably no exception. Set your shower time to some ambient music of your choice, soothing aromatic candles, and even colored mood lighting for the ultimate relaxation. These days, you can even change the lighting via voice control thanks to smart home technology.

Plus, you could also add little customized touches such as plants or sculptures on the shelf, or even install a showerhead which sports your favorite color.

3) The Clean Freak

Perhaps to you, a shower is more than just a token rinse off. It’s a chance to scrub down and get squeaky clean. And if you’re the sort who’s particular about hygiene, then choosing the right soap or washing out your loofah might only be the beginning of your concerns. You might also want a showerhead that’s easy to keep clean, so you can rest assured that every drop of water it spouts is uncontaminated.

That’s where translucent showerheads such as GENIE by American Standard comes in. Its see-through casing provides the ultimate assurance that every shower is free from dirt and grime. And if what you see is not satisfactory, the showerhead is also easily dismantled so you can take it apart and wash each individual piece, and make sure you’re getting the cleanest shower possible.

4) The Fuss-free Worker Bee

Is the shower just a functional part of your daily routine, rather than something you particularly relish and enjoy? Then perhaps a straightforward, no-frills shower set is what would suit you the most. One that takes up minimal space, while still providing maximum value-added functionality.

For instance, the American Standard EasySET Exposed is a compact shower set that is both classic and functional. It is designed with a shelf just big enough to hold your necessary bath products, and also comes with an automatic temperature mixer so that you have full control of your water. That means no more sudden scalding hot spurts or freezing cold shocks mid-shower to ruin your mood – making it great for families with young kids too.

No matter what kind of shower you like best, these days there’s something for everyone. All you need to do is a little research, and pick the one that suits your personality the best, so shower time can not only be a smooth process but also a relaxing one every day.

4 Innovative Touches for a Rejuvenating Bathroom Experience

Aug 05, 2019

The home is a welcoming oasis that offers respite from the harried pace of life. Also, the simple and practical act of taking a shower can be imbued with comfort and relaxation — with the right selection of smart shower solutions. Now, take shower time to the next level with innovative touches, designed to restore, revive and rejuvenate the senses — all while preserving the safety and comfort of every member in the family.

Fuss free comfort

1) Fuss free comfort

The shower should be a safe space to get away from life’s daily stresses — not a source of annoyance and frustration. Jumping in to shower is usually a part of the day that’s synonymous with total comfort. Clean design lines, soft hues and even nature-inspired motifs are a starting point for creating a space that eases the mind and senses.

And the temperature of the water plays a pivotal role in lifting the shower experience. For example, the American Standard EasySET auto temperature mixers (ATM) offers the comforts of a warm shower at the exact temperature preferred by the user, from the moment one steps into the shower stall. Furthermore, it’s modern design with an optional PreSET controller that can be installed outside the bathroom, so users can adjust their preferred settings, without compromising on sleek style.

Now, bid adieu to the endless fiddling of faucets to adjust the water flow when it’s time for a shower. At just a push of a button, one’s preferred water flow, water temperature and water source can be selected for uninterrupted tranquility throughout the shower, with the help of the innovative EasySET technology.

That’s not all, the EasySET shower solution features a roomy storage area to neatly hold bath products, without the need for a separate caddy that adds clutter to an otherwise minimalist bathroom. It is also intelligently designed with an integrated side hook to neatly hold a bath sponge.

Safety for the senses

2) Safety for the senses

The safety and health of clients should always lie at the heart of good design. While a blistering hot shower might be a tempting way for home dwellers to relax after a long day, it’s a surefire way to dry out skin and cause irritation especially for those suffering from eczema or sensitive skin.

And although it might seem like a good idea to take a cold shower to be refreshed in the morning and stay cool for the rest of the day, the sensation of icy cool water on our skin is just a temporary pleasure. When exposed to a dramatic change in temperature, the body might retain more heat within its core, thereby increasing the sensation of warmth after the shower.

Thankfully, there’s the American Standard EasySET auto temperature mixer — which maintains the desired water temperature and pressure throughout a shower, even if another resident is taking a shower in a separate bathroom at the same time. This prevents any accidental surges or dips in water temperature to avoid a sudden jolt of icy water or dangerous scalding, for ultimate safety during bath time.

The power of keeping it gentle

3) The power of keeping it gentle

Homeowners living in tropical climates are used to taking multiple showers, a habit that should be factored into designing the ideal bathroom. Excessive showering, however, can strip skin of moisture and cause irritation. A great bathroom design takes into consideration the clients’ habits and lifestyle, and could include shower features that minimise the side effects of multiple showers.

For example, a shower that has the ability to reinvigorate, while being gentle on skin. This is especially crucial for those with sensitive skin conditions which may be aggravated by over-showering.

Take for example the award-winning hand shower GENIE, which provides just the right water pressure with 120 micro spray holes. Because of the consistent water pressure, the shower experience is soothing, without causing any unwanted abrasion.

Ensuring a top-to-toe clean

4) Ensuring a top-to-toe clean

Nothing spoils one’s sense of wellness and happiness than being sick. And germs tend to reside on objects that have come into contact with ill family members: Think door knobs, remote controls, and especially all parts of the bathroom. So it’s important to keep all surfaces clean and free from germs and bacteria with a thorough cleanse regularly.

And while we all assume that a shower is the epitome of personal hygiene, showerheads have been reported to be a hotbed for bacteria. A study by the researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder have shown that the warm and wet environment of the showerhead could make it a great refuge for bacteria. In fact, unwanted limescale, mold and dirt commonly found in showerheads could make inhabitants ill.

Enter the clever design of the GENIE, which includes a back cover that can be easily removed, which allows for the convenient removal of nasties in the showerhead. It is tailored for busy folks to dismantle and cleanse their showerheads with ease, thereby preventing the build up of limescale, mold and dirt which could give rise to bacterial growth.

More than just a simple splash off, stepping into the shower allows for much-needed quiet time to decompress after a stressful day. Once armed with innovative shower solutions for total comfort, safety and relaxation, bath time will naturally go from perfunctory to downright blissful!

4 Rules to Ace Timeless Home Decor

Apr 12, 2019

While urbanites are on the constant hunt for the latest status purse, or perennially upgrade their gadgets for the snazziest model, a beautifully designed home should always stand the test of time. After all, what most homeowners desire is fairly straightforward – an uncluttered house that spells modern elegance, but classic enough so it doesn’t quickly go out of style. In order to attain that timeless look, it’s important to look for elements – whether it comes to paint colors, decorative items, or even functional pieces of furniture – that combine contemporary elements with a refined sensibility.

With that in mind, here are four aspects towards a timeless and modern home design that will be sure to last you through the years:

  1. Simple Colors

When it comes to picking a paint colors palette, simplicity can go a long way in ensuring that your home stays clean and modern looking. Try sticking with neutral shades such as beige, grays and off-whites, as these can really help to accentuate the space in your home. Light colors like a soft blue or green can also have a similar effect of creating the illusion of a larger space, while also providing the flexibility of incorporating statement decorative pieces. And while dark colors like emerald greens and ruby red tend to make a room look smaller, they can also be used as accents to compliment the neutral base shades, helping to add a pop of color to the design without complicating it too much. The Vanity collection from KASTELLO uses jewel tones to help compliment base shades and give your bathroom a touch of sophistication. Simple, clean and universally flattering for any bathroom, the Vanity collection is perfect to ace that timeless decor.

  2. Tasteful Fixtures

In every home, fixtures like lighting are necessities for daily living. But instead of selecting them as an afterthought, why not incorporate fixtures into your overall home design instead? Take the KASTELLO Collection by American Standard for example; its strong bespoke design language is timeless classic and modern, so it fits seamlessly into any home bathroom. After all, design comes first for this one-of-a-kind collection, featuring authentic materials, defined edges, signature flare-out shapes and a 90-degree spout.

  3. Beautiful Functionality

Design is no longer just about looking good, as functionality plays an increasingly important role when considering the mix of pieces and elements in a home. Furnishings with tangible functions will not only enrich your life and increase convenience in the immediate future but can also remain useful through any changes in lifestyle. That’s why the KASTELLO Collection boasts functionality on top of beautiful design, with features like Durashine – a shiny chrome finishing with a long-lasting brilliance, and ComfortMove – a smooth handle that provides optimal precision and comfort, helping with the ease of movement. With pieces like that in your house, there’ll no longer be a need to choose between elegance or functionality.

  4. Sustainable Style

Climate change may be the talk of the town now but taking care of our planet will actually have to involve a lifestyle change that has to continue for a long time. Therefore, having eco-friendly features around your house will not only help the environment, but also be in line with keeping your home design relevant and smart in the years to come. One of the biggest ways you can start is by saving energy and water in the one room in the house that is definitely used on a daily basis – the bathroom. Functions like Ecostart – a single-lever faucet that releases cold water first to prevent the boiler from heating up unnecessarily – can help save 30 per cent in energy consumption, while the SiphonMax technology improves water efficiency with 2 twin torrents of water creating a whirlpool around the bowl. Simultaneously, a jet of water is released from below creating a second push action and coupled with water being funneled away from the bottom of the bowl that generates a powerful pull action, SiphonMax effectively removed both heavy and light wastes. Both can be found in the KASTELLO collection, to help keep your home clean, green and timeless.

Spring into a New Season with a Bathroom Refresh

Apr 10, 2019

What comes to mind when you think of Spring? Fresh greenery, colorful flowers, nature and lots of warm sunshine? This sense of new energy and vibrancy is something you will appreciate daily, and thus an ideal inspiration for your home decor.

One of the most often overlooked spaces in the home is also possibly one of the easiest and most affordable to decorate – yes you are right, it’s the bathroom. Refreshing your bathroom does not need to be a hassle. To inject your bathroom with the lightness and freshness of springtime, here are four simple things you can do.

1) Greenery

If you are the kind of person with green fingers, decorating your shelves with plants could be a simple, and obvious way to add a little bit of springtime to your bathroom decor. All it takes is a quick trip to your nearby nursery to pick up a few plants and you will be sprucing up your bathroom in no time at all.

On the other hand, if you are impeded by a lack of green fingers, don’t fret just yet. There are plants that are not as finicky, and we do not just mean cactuses. Consider tropical plants like pothos, air plants (no soil needed!), and ferns – they grow well in your bathroom even with the humidity and lack of sunlight. Plus, how adorable will these miniature trees look on your windowsill?

2) Textured Bathroom Furniture

It is easy for the bathroom to be written off as a purely utilitarian part of the house, especially when decked out in cold metal towel racks and plastic bathroom stools. The trick is to add a little texture with simple things like a wooden toothbrush holder, or a wicker basket to hold your soap or plants, and you might find your bathroom softens into a much warmer and more inviting space. A rustic-looking ladder made of reclaimed wood will not only make a lovely addition to your bathroom, but you could give it a new lease of life as a towel or magazine rack.

3) Spring Scents

When it comes to jazzing up a space, you may tend to forget that smells play a significant role in setting a particular ambience. For springtime freshness, go for candles with fragrances of freshly mowed lawns, citrus fruits, or flower gardens that will surely help cover any unpleasant bathroom odors.

And if scented candles are too overwhelming for you, consider picking a subtle soap which will work wonders too.

4) Wall Colors

It’s pretty common sense that colors can drastically alter the vibe of any room. A bright lime green color for instance will definitely hit you over the head with the vibrancy and energy of springtime, whereas a unique shade of blue like periwinkle gives a similar vibe of inspiring calmness and serenity.

Whether you’re going as far as repainting a wall or doing something as simple as buying a few potted plants, there are many ways to inject the spirit of Spring into your bathroom. After all, these small changes could go a long way in lifting the spirits and adding an extra perk to your bathroom experience.

Take your bathroom into the future with these 4 smart features

Mar 08, 2019

Google Home System

These days, it’s no surprise how smart home technology has increasingly become the latest obsession of any modern homeowner, especially given the growing accessibility to things like smart lights, smart doorbells, smart video surveillance and the latest Google Home systems, which have all proven to instantly elevate our lifestyle. So it’s only natural that this desire extends to the bathroom as well – a place where we spend a huge chunk of our time, and want to be as comfortable and luxurious as possible. Jazzing up this space can actually have an obvious and positive impact on our lives. Plus, why not save water and energy in the process?

With that in mind, here are 4 smart technologies for your bathroom today:

1) Voice-controlled bathroom lights

Already thinking of fitting your house with smart lights and Amazon’s Alexa? Why stop at just the living room or bedroom? Control your bathroom lights with your voice as well, and say goodbye to stubbed toes or slipping on bathroom tiles. You won’t have to fumble for that light switch the next time nature calls in the middle of the night, and being able to turn off your lights via mobile phone app also means never leaving the lights on overnight – and wasting precious energy – ever again.

2) Smart toilets

Smart Toilet

Whenever smart toilets are mentioned, chances are you’ll think of temperature-controlled bidets, remote controls, or even ambient music that will cover up any undesirable bathroom noise. In this day and age, technology plays an increasing role in living well and living responsibly. Smart toilets also tend to boast eco-friendly features so you can be kind to the environment while using the bathroom. The e.ssential shower toilet by American Standard is one example of such a smart toilet. It features all the essential personal cleansing and comfort features like dual nozzles cleansing with massaging sprays, adjustable seat, water and dryer temperatures. Furthermore under the power saving mode, water heating and seat heating functions will stop, while cleansing and flushing still operate. Original settings resume after eight hours, so just hit the button before leaving for work in the morning and rest assured you’ll be saving a whole day’s worth of energy consumption.

3) Smart mirrors

Smart mirrors have been around for a while and can vary in function. Some of them can help adjust lighting or heating, display time, or even playing videos so you can stream the news while you go about your morning routine. Others give you control of your home system like viewing security footage, adjusting lights or even opening doors, all without having to leave the bathroom. Of course, one of the most helpful potential uses would undoubtedly be the streaming of make-up videos on YouTube while gussying up in front of the mirror.

4) Smart showers

Smart Shower

If you’re drawn to a luxurious shower experience, the American Standard SPECTRA eTouch shower head features industry-first technology allowing users to change spray functions with a touch of the fixture itself, or on the convenient remote. It’s a step-up for any user in the family, as the shower head setting can easily be adjusted for anything from a relaxing massage to a light rinse, using a waterproof remote control mounted on a wall within a 3-metre radius. This means no longer having to stand on tippy-toes and reach for the shower head every time you want to switch between the 4 different spray functions – Drench, Sensitive, Jet and Massage – making it safer for elderly or children as well.

So if you have already incorporated smart home features into your own house, why not extend these features to your bathroom as well? Or if you’re the sort who’s still mulling over whether to invest in it, perhaps it might be worthwhile to consider starting with a few simple smart features within the bathroom. After all, the benefits of a smart bathroom don’t just stop at comfort and convenience, but also stretch to sustainability and safety. What more could we ask from our bathrooms?

5 Timeless and Trendy House Design Elements

Mar 07, 2019

No thanks to the busy lives we lead – as we hustle to get through our hectic schedules and barely set aside any “me time” – our homes naturally need to be a sanctuary of peace and quiet at the end of a manic work day. And nothing whispers “calm” and “comfort” better than a minimalist, timeless decor scheme. While a major overhaul of a living space may not be a realistic option for most, it might be worth incorporating soothing design elements that withstand the test of trends and lifestyle changes. With that in mind, here are some classic touches that will help keep your house’s design and functionality relevant through the years.

Minimalism

Minimalism

The concept of minimalism may not be new, as people have been decorating their homes in accordance to this theme for years. Think white accented colours, and simple, classic furnishings that are both modern and timeless. The key characteristics that define minimalism include monochromatic colours, clean, solid-tone furniture pieces and minimum countertop pieces. This style has been around for a long time for good reason too. Simple colours and clean designs keep a house looking modern and uncluttered, so the space is easy to maintain even after decades of being lived in. Minimalism also calls for a constant reviewing of the items in your home in order to keep it looking decluttered, indirectly helping you get rid of unnecessary possessions every once in a while.

Symmetry

Symmetry

Did you know, when it comes to timeless design, symmetry is at the forefront? Whether in the form of 19th Century Georgian architecture or in the modern day, symmetrical curves and angles have always been appealing to the eye. This mix of classic and modern styles is best-expressed in the symmetrical curves and angles found in the upcoming Kastello Collection by American Standard, which revolves around functionality and comfort to provide the best experience. The line boasts clean lines and unrivalled symmetrical design that is not only pleasing to the eye,but designed to universally fit the style of various types of houses and rooms. Plus, you can rest assured that the Kastello Collection provides not only the best design, but the most functional as well.

Clean Lines

Clean Lines

Tying in with symmetry is the need for clean lines if you’re looking for a long-lasting, trendy house design. With every renowned brand comes its simple trademark design – one that everyone recognises it by – like Chanel’s boy bag and their perfume bottles. Complicated patterns are generally avoided when it comes to a timeless pieces and therefore, keeping your furnishings’ lines clean and its shapes simple with a touch of a signature flare will help ensure that your home deco lasts through the years. Clean lines does not necessarily mean subtlety however. Instead, lines can be bold and definitive to add character to an otherwise bland piece of furniture. The Kastello and Acacia Evolution collections by American Standard both feature sharp, clean-cut lines that do just that for your home design. They encapsulate the essence of how having clean lines can add a modern, timeless touch to your home design.

Simple Colours and Patterns

Simple Colours and Patterns

Selecting colours and patterns may sound like a ridiculously straightforward thing to do, but it is definitely key to making or breaking the design of a home. If you are looking for timeless, then instead of going for fanciful or complicated colours and designs, pick a simple base colour – blacks, greys, whites – that can be layered upon to create a simple but striking duo-tone. With a simple base colour as a foundation, you can layer more vibrant shades over the years, and also work more flexibly with various furniture pieces of different colours. Simple patterns also keep the design of the house balanced so it stays interesting but doesn’t overwhelm the senses.

Contrast and Dynamism

Contrast and Dynamism

It may be tempting to deck your home with everything you see in a modern design magazine, but don’t forget that sometimes, a little vintage piece of furniture or wallpaper can add a whole lot of character. Old is definitely gold when used right, as they would have already withstood the test of time. The Quentin and Portsmouth collection from American Standard features some of the classic elements of the olden days. From copper tones to curved silverware and vintage-inspired shapes, these collections add a timeless touch to your home design by keeping the tradition of the mid-20th Century and interlacing that with a few modern touches.

Even as you select which design element is best to incorporate in your home, just remember to keep in mind the purpose of your design. It’s up to each person’s personal preference, but what you can consider is whether your aim is for maximum comfort, or timelessness, or even a combination of both.

These 5 key elements of a timeless design are simply guidelines to follow when designing your crib, but only you will know what design works best for you.

Transform Your Bathroom into a Romantic Sanctuary

Feb 25, 2019

Anyone would agree that most of us lead busy, stress-filled lives, and we could all use some relaxation and self-pampering. Unfortunately, the reality is that it’s not always possible to squeeze a getaway into our hectic schedules.

So if you’ve decided against the expensive vacation, why not bring that signature resort feel to your own home instead? One of the most crucial accommodation factors that can set the mood is the room’s elegance, and especially how luxurious the bathroom is. In fact, the bathroom is easily taken for granted as a purely utilitarian place. But if done right, it can also be an oasis of relaxation and romance.

Here are a few touches to add for your bathroom design to put you in the mood for romance.

1) Surround yourself with romantic tones

Surround yourself with romantic tones

To play ambient music in your bathroom to set the mood, you might think it’s unnecessary to spend a fortune on smart speakers and install them into ceilings to avoid water splash. But in actual fact, a high-definition waterproof Bluetooth speaker can easily be purchased without burning a hole in your pocket.

2) Must-have His-and-Hers vanity

Must-have His-and-Hers vanity

Did you love that stylish vanity area at the last holiday accommodation you have visited? Why not replicate it right at home, and avoid the squabble over who’s hogging the mirror, with a His-and-Hers vanity?

Aside from not having to share a mirror, it’s also an investment in storage space, as you would usually accompany the addition of dual hand wash basins with two vanity cabinets for storing bathroom accessories and towels. Maximize comfort and create that perfect dream bathroom environment to indulge together with your loved one.

3) Invest in a rain shower for two

Tired of the forceful stream of water from your regular shower head whenever you take a shower? The last thing you’d want after a long day at work is probably a struggle in the bathroom. So instead, perhaps try a calming rain shower, where water is evenly spread over a large area to create that luxurious rain-like experience.

4) Romance with scents

Romance with scents

Everyone knows aromatherapy can do wonders when it comes to stress relief and setting the stage for romance. Simply invest in a diffuser and some of your favourite essential oils to set the mood of choice, and help mask lingering bathroom odours in the process. Alternatively, go a little more old-school and burn a scented candle to create the idyllic atmosphere for an idyllic experience.

Even if candles and diffusers aren’t quite your cup of tea, shampoo or body wash infused with aromatherapy scents can have the same effect of leaving your bathroom smelling like heaven after a shower.

For a refreshing and clean aroma, try something with citrus – like lemon, orange, or even kumquat – or an ocean scent. If you prefer something soothing, lavender is always a safe choice.

5) Get a tub for lounging

Get a tub for lounging

If your bathroom can afford the space, a standalone bathtub can provide a much-needed respite at the end of a long, busy day. Not only do you not have to stand while washing off the day’s dirt and grime, the occasional relaxing soak with your other half, coupled with nice smelling bath salts, can be great for soothing both the tired muscles and mind.

Whether you are drawn to the beauty, form and function of a classic claw-foot tub, or the versatility that comes with a sleek, modern design, any free-standing tub could also easily double-up as the showpiece of the entire bathroom for both you and your partner to enjoy.

So what are you waiting for? Transform your bathroom, and your home just might become end up becoming your daily favourite holiday getaway with your loved one.

Is Your Bathroom Really As Clean As You Think?

Nov 07, 2018

Visiting the bathroom is an everyday matter and being careless about bathroom hygiene may be hazardous to health. From the bacteria lurking on door knobs, basins to the toilet interior and seat itself, a bathroom visit can be quite a hygienic challenge – and falling sick is never fun.

Dangerous strains of bacteria such as Escherichia coli (E. coli), an intestine-affecting virus, can thrive in a bathroom environment where fecal matter is aerosolized with every toilet flush, causing any bathroom-user to fall sick. One of the symptoms include severe diarrhea – the second leading cause of death for children under 5 years old, cited by the World Health Organization.

As such, going touch-free with automated cleansing feature, sensor faucet and jet air hand dryer are good moves to reduce hand contact and combat bacteria. Especially in this case, E. coli bacteria easily travels from person to person, largely when infected adults and children do not wash their hands properly.

Now, how about the toilet surfaces you do not come into contact with? As the toilet can be a hotbed of diseases, what you know between safe and unsafe bathrooms can spell the difference between sickness and health.

Spare yourself the headache of severe diarrhea, flu or other infections by arming the bathrooms in your home with HygieneClean System by American Standard – a bundle of revolutionary technologies and innovations that assure your bathrooms to be safe, clean and hygienic.

Flushing Away The Threat

For starters, waste can be efficiently removed by SiphonMax flushing technology – a dynamic vacuum mechanism, complete with side water jets that create a powerful swirl and a lower jet that completely eradicates waste so you never have to worry about opening the flood gates at the end of a long day.

Compared to conventional dual flush toilets, the Double Vortex flushing technology – a dual opening system that creates a powerful vortex to provide maximum flushing performance with minimal water usage, saves 0.4 litres of water for half flush and 2 litres for full flush.

In-built Defense

And what if you’re a busy working adult who doesn’t have the time to scrub the toilet every single day? That’s where Aqua Ceramic anti-stain technology comes in. This award-winning super-hydrophilic technology prevents dirt and dark ring stains from sticking to ceramic surfaces. It allows water to penetrate between contaminants and the toilet surface, ensuring waste is lifted off with our every flush.

It works hand-in-hand with ComfortClean antibacterial technology – a revolutionary ceramic glaze with zinc oxide that’s fired right inside the porcelain. Tests conducted by the Industrial Microbiological Services Limited (IMSL) have proven that this glaze effectively kills or inhibits the growth of E. coli bacteria in the long run. Plus, it also means your toilet will retain its smooth interior surface even after years of use.

With these two technologies in your corner, you will still have to wash your toilet of course, but with less frequency and the assuredness that germs will have trouble lingering on its surfaces.

Putting Hygiene And Cleanliness First

Backed by more than 140 years of pioneering legacy, American Standard continues to raise the bar in delivering dependable bathroom solutions that combine thoughtful designs and innovative technologies that offer the ultimate combination of comfort and performance to our customers. Delivered by powerful flushing, anti-stain and antibacterial technologies, American Standard HygieneClean system is the new standard of safety in your bathroom.

With the launch of its TEMPTACION Collection, American Standard brings the benefits of precision showering to more homes who can now enjoy them for a mere fraction of the price of other brands.

Featuring German-precision cartridge, TEMPTACION allows you to bask in the knowledge that you can shower to your heart’s content, with no worries at all about sudden changes in water temperature: once you have selected your preferred setting, all you need to do is to turn on the water- and as it would have reached your desired temperature almost instantly- it will pour out exactly as you want it, enabling you to start relishing your perfect shower from the onset.

After all, precision is innate to auto temperature mixer aka thermostatic mixer: more so, it is equipped to answer the real need for a worry-free, no-scald, showering experience.

Constant comfort

Built into every auto temperature mixer is ThermoComfort: the smart feature which assures that water is at a constant, comfortable temperature, from beginning to end – freeing the user from sudden scalding or a sudden drop in temperature as it automatically adjusts the ratio of hot and cold water, regardless of water usage in other parts of the home. Users indulge in a continuous flow of water, set to the temperature they have pre-selected, for their utmost pleasure.

Safe shower experience

Promising a safe shower experience, a child-safety feature – Safety-Lock button – blocks water temperature at 38°C. To increase water temperature, press the button -located at the bottom of the handle- while turning up the temperature control handle.

In instances when cold water supply in the home fails, ThermoSafe kicks into action: this safety temperature control -up to 49°C- triggers an auto shut off function to prevent overly hot water from pumping out of the shower.

Scalding shocks are now totally impeded, as CoolShield ensures that the body of the faucet remains cool to the touch the entire time.

TEMPTACION is fitted with a host of other thoughtful features.

Sustainability

  • Earth warriors will take special delight in TEMPTACION. It saves precious water by ensuring that less is used. Showering using the auto temperature mixer saves precious water as there is also less water and energy wastage as the need to manually adjust the valve to reach the ideal temperature is eliminated.
  • TEMPTACION auto temperature mixers are pre-set to work at 50% water capacity without compromising shower enjoyment. To increase water flow, one can simply press the Eco-Lock button to turn up the volume controller handle a notch higher.

Purposeful design

  • SpaceCreate: Creates extra usable shelf space placed strategically within your easy reach. Perfect for holding toiletries and other bathroom accessories.
  • Everybody’s hands get soapy in the shower. TEMPTACION Auto Temperature Mixers are designed with an Ergonomic Handle-with an anti-slip wing for better grasp when turning the handle; quite useful when your hands are slippery with soap.

Quite a tasteful addition to the shower wall, the TEMPTACION exposed auto temperature mixers are also easy to install and maintain and come in shower or bath and shower models that appeal to different sensibilities and aesthetics.

More pleasure in your shower regardless of pressure with Genie by American Standard

Oct 03, 2018

Low water pressure is a reality in Asia Pacific either because of old, poorly-maintained infrastructure or the use of instant water heaters. While there are pressure boosting hand showers in the market, it is a challenge to find one with quality and style all at the same time, or even one that is gentle on the skin for an enjoyable shower experience.

A disappointing shower experience is definitely no way to start your day! Putting customers at the heart of everything it does, and committed to raising the bar of living healthily, responsibly and beautifully, American Standard has since launched the award-winning GENIE pressure booster hand shower to cope with low water pressure, often experienced in parts of Asia Pacific.

Petal Pressure: For a consistent robust water pressure that is gentle on the skin

GENIE places comfort, hygiene and aesthetics at its forefront that will appeal to the discerning customers. It boasts better water pressure performance as a result of 120 micro spray holes that ensure a robust water flow, even under a low pressure. That said, this increase in water pressure through the micro spray holes does not increase the water volume. Coupled with its already less-than- usual water usage as compared to conventional hand shower, it is effective in saving water. At the same time, it also provides a non-abrasive shower experience for users so one can enjoy the time in the bathroom, which is increasingly seen as a place of refuge and tranquility that eases the stress of daily life.

Clean water you can see. Easy cleaning you will love.

In addition, users can also look forward to a visibly clean shower experience. Sporting a rarely seen translucent shower face, GENIE is also revolutionary in its product design that prompts users to clean the slime and mineral deposits to ensure they are getting clean water for their shower session even after long-time use. Unlike other hand showers in the market, the back cover of the GENIE is designed to be easily removed for cleaning with any round-headed key or that provided in the packaging, it also reminds users of possible insecure fastening by popping out on such occasions for an uninterrupted experience in the shower.

A modern design for every bathroom

Housed in an attractive lifestyle packaging to draw in the younger users, GENIE is the epitome of modern simplicity in its design. Made of polycarbonate for durability, it is available in three colours – aquamarine, petal pink, and steel grey.

Award-Winning design

Recognized for its purposeful design, GENIE is awarded with Good Design Best 100 Award 2018, a design evaluation and commendation system in Japan.

It is also a winner at the prestigious Red Dot Design Award in 2018, which is one of the most sought-after quality marks for good design internationally since 1955.

Vice President of Design at American Standard and INAX, and designer of the Genie Hand Shower, Antoine Besseyre des Horts, commented, “Genie, American Standard’s innovative yet very affordable hand shower, is a milestone achievement in our aim to offer innovative solutions to the day-to-day challenges that consumers face and illustrates our design-led thinking perfectly. It was designed and developed with a pressure-boosting and water-saving technology to ensure an indulgent shower experience to people living in parts of Asia, where water pressure and scarcity are daily issues. The product addresses not only the consumer insights of poor showering experience at low pressure but also features aesthetics and materials combination not seen at such price point. With the iconic transparent colored spray face and universal opening system, the product offers a great balance between emotional and practical benefits.”

For over 140 years as a pioneer in the design and innovation sector, the highly dependable offerings of American Standard have been providing consumers with inviting bathrooms to relax in. Over the decades, innovative breakthroughs and technologies have further placed the brand at the forefront as it endeavors to raise the standard of living by delivering bathroom solutions that are beautiful, purposeful and safe for everyone.

HygieneClean System by American Standard: No dirt. No stains. No bacteria. No worries.

Oct 01, 2018

In the bathroom, deadly E.coli strains
may be lying in wait
to infect babies & the elderly
with fatal diarrhea.

How safe is your bathroom?

American Standard is committed to provide everyone- not just with beautiful and purposeful bathroom solutions, but with bathrooms that are safe, clean and hygienic. As the toilet can be a hotbed of diseases-which can include severe diarrhea, what you know between safe and unsafe bathrooms can spell the difference between sickness and health.

The World Health Organization and UNICEF both cite diarrhea as a leading cause of death in children under 5 years of age: in 2016 alone, UNICEF cited almost 500,000 fatalities. E. coli O157 is a major culprit, as this pathogen can thrive in the bathroom- lurking in water contaminated with human feces, becoming aerosolized with every flush, contaminating the bowl, the flush handle -even toothbrushes, helping cause severe diarrhea that is potentially fatal to babies and the elderly, as it results in dehydration.

But now, parents everywhere stressing over hygiene and cleanliness in the bathroom can relax, secure in the knowledge that American Standard harnesses innovative hygiene technologies for the safety of everyone.

To ensure that dirt and stains will not be able to stick to its surfaces, and that no bacteria can survive in the toilet bowl, American Standard instills bathrooms with HygieneClean System- the new standard of safety in the bathroom- delivered by its powerful flushing technologies plus cutting-edge innovations of Aqua Ceramic and ComfortClean.

Flushing Technologies

  • SIPHONMAX. Dynamic vacuum mechanism with side water jets create a powerful swirl, and a lower jet that removes both heavy and light waste completely.
  • DOUBLE VORTEX. Maximum flushing performance, yet with minimum water usage.

Anti-Stain Technology

  • AQUA CERAMIC. This award-winning super-hydrophilic technology prevents dirt and dark ring stains from sticking to ceramic surfaces. In fact, dirt glides off the surface as Aqua Ceramic enables water to penetrate between the contaminants and the toilet surface. Effectively guaranteeing that waste is lifted off with our every flush, with just the power of water.

Antibacterial Technology

  • COMFORTCLEAN. While other brands can only claim anti- bacterial action on their toilet seats, American Standard changes the game with ComfortClean: a revolutionary ceramic glaze with zinc oxide that effectively kills E. coli bacteria inside the toilet bowl for the long term and beyond, as proven in tests conducted by the IMSL.

Secure your family’s health better from deadly E. coli strains and other bacteria that cause bloody diarrhea and infectious diseases that can originate in the bathroom. Don’t settle for clean- ensure your toilets are clean AND hygienic. With HygieneClean System. Have peace of mind knowing it works to safely guard your family’s health.

American Standard commits to continuously invest its resources in innovative hygiene technology for the health of the whole family, helping raise standards of living, ensuring we may live our lives beautifully, purposefully and safely.

Unveiling a New Brand, Raising Standards of Bathrooms

Sep 14, 2018

For more than 140 years, American Standard has transformed bathrooms with an extensive range of enduring and innovative bathroom solutions. Since 2016, the iconic brand has unveiled a new brand identity, symbolized by a new logo and brand values that denote the brand’s continued dedication to raise the standard of bathrooms amid its growing presence in Asia Pacific, by delivering bathroom solutions that are beautiful, purposeful and safe for everyone.

The progressive brand puts customers at the heart of everything it does, by combining thoughtful designs and innovative technologies into its products. It aims to innovate, bridge aesthetics with functionality, and create thoughtful products that are built to last. Thus, its bathroom and kitchen solutions exude an inviting style and are designed with purposeful functions, delivering both superior performance and lasting quality. But more importantly, American Standard wants to ensure that these are made accessible for everyone to enjoy.

American Standard’s Unrivalled Legacy

Since 1872, American Standard has blazed the trails of innovation in bathrooms, pioneering numerous breakthroughs that have inspired today’s bathroom wares. In the 1880’s, the brand perfected and patented the enamel coating process to create an easy-to-clean tub that prevented corrosion and bacteria from forming and multiplying on the sides of metal tubs. This quickly catapulted the brand as a plumbing leader. In 1926, when bathrooms were purely functional with all-white interface, American Standard broke the norm and introduced colorful and stylish fixtures, instituting the idea of bathroom that is both utilitarian and aesthetically beautiful.

The 1960s-1980s period was a growth era for American Standard. The company expanded its product offerings and ventured into new markets and technologies. Innovations included the now ubiquitous “push and pull” faucets, slip-resistant bathtubs, odor-removing Vent-Away toilet systems and remote control drain pop-ups. One key technological breakthrough was the ceramic disc valve that is in most of American Standard faucets today – promising a lifetime of drip-free and maintenance-free performance.

American Standard also impressed the world with its vision of ‘Bath of the Future’. Referred to as the Sensorium with Ambience, the tub features unprecedented functions such as remote-control capabilities and pre- programmed filling of the bath with temperature control. The Sensorium with Ambience bathtub boasts an elegant silhouette with soft-curves and is decked with cutting-edge equipments, such as audio system, TV intercom and telephone.

American Standard in Today’s Bathrooms

The American Standard legacy continues today as the brand leads the market with innovative bathroom solutions, serving more than 20 markets globally. Its endeavor towards pioneering technological breakthroughs goes on, trailblazing innovations that offer new levels of style and performance while raising the standard of comfortable, beautiful, healthy and convenient living. Some of these breakthroughs include the ComfortClean antibacterial finish for a total hygiene protection, and several technologies that answer to the need of sustainable living: Double Vortex Flushing System offers optimal flushing performance with minimum water usage while the EcoStart and ClickMove Technologies reduce energy and water consumption respectively in faucets.

The brand entered the Asia Pacific market in 1961 and has since changed the face of bathrooms in the region, providing beautiful and harmonious bathroom solutions that fit diverse lifestyles. Its reliable workmanships coupled with its relentless dedication to stay on top of innovation curves has rewarded the brand to furnish numerous landmark projects- such as the luxurious Okada Manila Hotel and Incheon Airport in South Korea, just to name a few- and to earn several product accolades including Good Design Award, Red Dot Design Award, iF Product Design Award, dFA Award etc.

As part of the rebranding exercise, American Standard has launched a series of collections that boast three distinct styles: Classic, Contemporary and Modern. Each individual piece that makes up each collection is carefully selected to perfectly match each other, creating a seamless bathroom environment for all to indulge. These pieces can also be paired with other items across the American Standard’s collections, creating a best match option that offers a design flexibility that caters to every design requirements.

Since 2013, American Standard has been part of the LIXIL Group Corporation. Headquartered in Japan, LIXIL is a global leader in the building materials and housing industry and owns some of the most trusted brands in our industry including GROHE, INAX and DXV.

5 Unpredictable Toilet Situations People Get Themselves Into

Sep 07, 2018

Toilet humor might be staple material for less creative comics, but awkward situations in the bathroom are usually anything but funny in reality. Say hello to the next era of derrière self-care: American Standard leverages on over 50 years of shower toilet expertise from one of LIXIL’s portfolio of brands – INAX, offering a range of Spalet products – shower toilets, e-bidets and manual bidets, providing an ultimate peace of mind when it comes to unexpected toilet situations. Scroll on to see how these toilet emergencies will be things of the past with pampering solutions.

1) Toilet paper emergencies

Running out of toilet paper is a more common problem than you think. Nature pays a sudden call, you dash into the bathroom, and before you know it, you’re trapped without toilet paper. Fret no longer, because our Spalet products present an enhanced hygiene system without the need for wipes. Inject technology into your daily loo cleansing routine with Spalets and enjoy a luxe shower for your rear with multiple spray modes.

2) The weak flush

Let’s face it: An inconsistent or weak flush can cause quite the headache at times, particularly when contents are stuck in the toilet or the dreaded skid marks being the epitome of loo boo-boos.

Featuring the Siphon Jet flushing technology in American Standard shower toilets, it uses a dynamic vacuum mechanism with side water jets to create a powerful swirl that effectively rinses the toilet, ensuring a gleaming, impeccable bowl.

3) Wet messes

Bid adieu to messy hand-held trigger sprays! For anybody who has used one, you would know that it is a challenge controlling the power and trajectory of the spray, causing your clothes to get wet or the entire bathroom floor to be dampened, posing a safety hazard for kids and the elderly living in the home.

The Spalet is a convenient, efficient and clean solution for washing up with its zero-mess design. The smart bidet provides the right angle for a thorough cleanse, and the spray pressure and water temperature can be controlled with a push of a button, allowing better control in water strength without getting your hand or floor wet.

4) Unexpected bathroom noises

Everyone’s had that awkward experience: whether you have a bathroom with slightly thin walls or at public washrooms, we have had to deal with embarrassing sounds when in the loo. Some of us flush in advance to create some background noise; while some might clear your throats. With Spalet, some models come with built-in relaxing music functions which can be activated out of courtesy to those within earshot to alleviate potential embarrassment.

5) Unpleasant bathroom smells

Nasty odors while using the loo is another common problem that arises, and masking the odors can be quite the chore.

Worry no more, because our Spalet products have a deodorizer function that automatically activates once the user is seated. The nifty feature neutralizes unwanted odors without the need for overpowering chemical fragrances, including the use of charcoal filters and fans to prevent any lingering scents.

Now, you can flush away such common bathroom woes and trust American Standard to find the right so-loo-tion to your toilet situation!

The New Standard of Bathroom Safety

Sep 07, 2018

In today’s digital world, technology touches all aspects of life – even our bathrooms. With the automation of homes, smart toilets have become increasingly common. But by having electrical components in the bathroom, one may wonder: is it safe?

A history of safe shower toilets

Safety is at the heart of American Standard. Upholding impeccable levels of health, safety and responsibility since 1875, it maintains top safety standards developed through years of rigorous testing, quality and innovation.

American Standard also leverages on the technological expertise of its sister brand INAX. Having introduced the first made-in-Japan shower toilet over 50 years ago, INAX has developed 400 quality criteria points which include 30 safety assurance tests and 80 lifelong durability tests. The same tests are adapted by American Standard to ensure the safety and durability of its shower toilets.

Engineered for assurance

Printed circuit boards of shower toilets have been designed and manufactured in-house for 25 years. Features such as the bidet dryer are built with flame-retardant materials while using a thermal controller to keep air at a precise temperature. In the event of failure, the dryer’s thermal fuse cuts off the heater’s electricity making sure the operating temperature does not exceed the heat resistance of the case.

Technology lies at the core of our shower toilets, and our in-house specialists develop cutting-edge components that unite electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical engineering. This creates stunning products that bring Hygiene, Comfort and Convenience in every bathroom experience.

Technology with a peace of mind

From everyday homes to hotels, American Standard shower toilets are fitted with hygiene, comfort and convenience features, with safety of the users in mind. Slow-closing covers creates family-friendly bathrooms to avoid children’s small fingers from getting trapped or injured. While built-in safety systems cut of electricity to the main power and electrical components in the event of a current overload, short circuit, device failure or abnormal situations. These safety features prevent potential hazards, allowing you to go about your cleansing routines with a complete peace of mind.

As technology continues to advance, American Standard aims to raise the standard by creating beautiful, purposeful and safe bathroom solutions.

Building Purposeful And Safe Bathrooms For Families

Building Purposeful And Safe Bathrooms For Families

Building the perfect bathroom that caters to everyone in the home is no longer just about mulling over themes, colours, or lighting styles. Especially for shared bathroom situations, it needs to be a room that both the young and old can enjoy. The right design can bring a soothing spa-like experience to the bathroom, and essentially safety.

As one of the iconic brands in sanitary ware, American Standard continues to raise the standard by creating complete bathroom solutions that exude an inviting style and design products that are beautiful, purposeful and safe for everyone in the family. Here are some practical and innovative solutions by American Standard that can enhance your bathroom experience in a family-friendly space.

For the Elderly

The elderly require extra attention and care in your home, particularly the bathroom. Common bathroom hazards like a slippery floor and non-existent grab bars have often posed dangers for the older folks.

While it may not be entirely possible to demarcate wet and dry areas in a bathroom, there are ways to minimize the risks of an accident-prone wet floor.

Take American Standard range of Spalets for example. These shower toilets, electronic and manual bidet seats provide ease of cleaning and heighten hygiene levels for the elderly. Unlike trigger sprays which leave floors wet, Spalets give you total control on water spray strength without getting your hands and floor wet, minimizing any risk of slipping accidents.

With remote control panels that are either hand-held or located conveniently on the side of the toilet, the elderly do not have to twist their backs to flush. Automatic opening of the toilet lid means there is no need for the older folks to bend over to close the seat and cover. The night light feature on selected Spalet models increase night visibility and reduces the danger of falls in the bathroom for the elderly

Some elderly who face difficulties lowering themselves onto a traditional toilet seat will benefit from American Standard toilets that are designed at a “right height” – the same height as a standard chair. This makes getting on and off the toilet easier. Additionally, the toilets incorporate a Comfort Curve Seat feature that ensures an ergonomic fit around the posterior. This avoids painful seat marks, especially during long bathroom visits.

For the Children

Hygiene is one of the greatest concerns for all parents when it comes to children in the bathroom. American Standard range of Spalet products features anti-bacterial technology on toilet seats and covers, nozzles and remote control panels to inhibit bacteria breeding, so parents can have peace of mind. Furthermore, the ComfortClean technology on the Spalets effectively kills E.Coli bacteria.

Safety is another big concern for children. American Standard thermostatic faucets with ThermoComfort technology provide a constant and comfortable temperature for the entire family, and with a safety feature like ThermoSafe – parents can rest assured that no scalding incidents will happen as it has a safety temperature control up to 49°C, with an auto shut-off function when cold water supply fails.

Faucets with CoolShield ensure that the body of the shower faucet stays cool and prevent scalding shocks, especially for curious and active children.

Slow closing toilet covers are also a must for child-friendly bathrooms. It ensures minimal noise when closed, and most importantly, minimize the risk of little fingers getting trapped or injured.

For the Parents

When an extended family lives together, the bathroom suddenly becomes a room of heavy traffic. And quite possibly, cleaning becomes a chore.

Besides anti-bacterial features, American Standard Spalets and selected toilet models are designed and built with Aqua Ceramic technology that easily removes dirt and stains. Featuring super-hydrophilicity on the ceramic surface, waste can be lifted off with just the power of water, promising 100 years declaration of clean.

Most parents are working adults with hectic lifestyles. Convenience is a big buzzword to this group of time-deprived individuals. With just a push of a button, the American Standard EasySET shower elevates your shower experience to a whole new level of enjoyment – something that exhausted parents would be thankful for after a long stressful day.

Are You Using Your Spalet Correctly?

Aug 08, 2018

Are You Using Your Spalet Correctly?

Why wipe when you can wash?

When it comes to a real cleanse, the pristine way to cleanse is definitely to wash rather than to wipe.

And that holds true for bathroom hygiene, especially after a visit to the loo.
Imagine this: A wipe is like spreading dirt around till the last smear gets wiped off – not a nice thought especially when it comes to your personal hygiene.

That’s where a Spalet either in the form of manual or electronic bidet seats, or shower toilets come into play

Smart toilets such as the Spalet specialize in a more hygienic and convenient cleansing approach with automated washing. If you haven’t used a Spalet before, fret not. We’ve put together some tips to ensure that you are using the Spalet the correct way – for the ultimate cleanse.

1. Double check the water pressure (and temperature!)

Stronger pressure doesn’t necessarily mean a more thorough cleaning. In fact, it could prove to be messy, catch you off guard, and affect the sensitive skin on the inner lining of your posterior. Remember, you want a hygienic cleanse, not a powerful wash. Using the spray on too high a pressure removes healthy and friendly bacteria, putting us at risk to infection. The right water pressure for thorough cleaning is to set it low or weak. The dispensing water should be cleansing you gently, not blasting around wildly. More importantly, double check the water temperature and make sure that it’s not too hot.

2. The longer it sprays, the cleaner it gets.

The massaging function of the jet spray can be addictive, and you’ll find yourself wanting more. However, be aware that too much of a good thing may not be good for you. Overuse can cause skin irritation or inflammation. Everything in moderation!

3. Turning up the heat

Aside from the massaging jet spray, the Spalet’s seat-warming ability should also be done right. Its purpose is to keep the user comfortable at first contact – especially during cold seasons – because no one likes to start a toilet visit by being shocked by a frigid toilet seat. Then again, you should set the temperature that is just right. Don’t be tempted to max it out to the point that you’re sitting on an oven. Just like with your shower, you wouldn’t dial the water temperature all the way to the hottest end and scald yourself, would you?

4. Getting a deep cleanse

A deep cleanse doesn’t mean a thorough cleanse. At least not in the context of using a shower toilet or bidet seat. Many people may misunderstand that by making sure that the water spray gets really between the butt-cheeks, one is getting a more hygienic cleanse. As a matter of fact, it is very unwise to do so, especially if the spray setting is on high and the water is heated. You actually risk damaging the sensitive membrane in the nether region, which may lead to health infections

5. Hit the right buttons!

‘Getting the hang of it’ requires time, patience and trials. This is also true for using a shower toilet or bidet seat. If you’re transitioning to a smart toilet for the first time and are confused by how the functions operate exactly, there is no need to get flustered.

There is a button for everything associated with what Spalet is known for: hygiene, comfort and convenience. Other than the oft-used functions of the bidet’s water pressure and temperature, there are buttons for LED Night Light, water efficiency and even music! The icons are easy to comprehend. Observe the buttons first and ignite each one of them as a ‘trial’ to see how it works. It only takes very little time to master how the buttons work and appreciate how user-friendly the Spalet truly is.

Are You Using Your Spalet Correctly?

So, there you have it. Move over, toilet paper. Smart toilets such as the Spalet has got every aspect of your bathroom needs (and wants) covered. Do away with that awkward acrobatic stance of wiping and you’ll instantly realize that a press of a button is way more efficient.

UNICEF and LIXIL to “Make a Splash” and Help Bring Sanitation to Children Around the World

Jul 26, 2018

Tokyo, 26 July 2018 – UNICEF, the world’s leading children’s organization, and LIXIL, a maker of pioneering water and housing products, are coming together in a new partnership to help vulnerable children gain access to safe and clean toilets.

The partnership, named “Make a Splash! Toilets for All”, will leverage the two organizations’ complementary strengths to support progress towards the Sustainable Development Goal of achieving access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all, and end open defecation by 2030.

“Nearly 800 children die every day from diarrhea caused by unsafe water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene,” said Henrietta Fore, UNICEF Executive Director. “Through this innovative partnership with LIXIL, we hope to help keep every child healthy and alive.”

UNICEF and LIXIL have already successfully worked together in Africa to provide people in need of toilets with access to sanitation products, designed by LIXIL to fit local conditions. The success led the partners to explore ways to expand their collaboration to improve sanitation for all.

The new partnership is among UNICEF’s most ambitious to date. It signals a new way that UNICEF is working with companies that engages their core business, at various levels, to achieve significant advances for children. It is UNICEF’s first global shared-value partnership in the water, sanitation and hygiene sector, and the first of its kind with a Japanese company.

As part of this new partnership, UNICEF and LIXIL will:

  • Launch market-driven programmes to help establish a sanitation economy and ensure that sanitation products are available at affordable prices for the people who need them, starting in Ethiopia, Tanzania and Kenya.
  • Engage in joint advocacy efforts that draw attention to the significant development opportunities presented by the sanitation economy.
  • Fundraising and engagement activities by LIXIL to support the expansion of the partnership to new countries.

The success of the partnership in expanding access to sanitation will also help to encourage more players to enter and expand this market.

Kinya Seto, LIXIL Group CEO, said: “In many countries, this ‘sanitation crisis’ has devastating consequences for public health and reduces children’s opportunities for the future, as many drop out of school because there is nowhere to go to the bathroom. As a global leader in sanitary products and with a unique brand of products known as SATO that are specifically designed for developing markets, we recognize the opportunity to improve the quality of life for people everywhere by raising sanitation standards, creating genuine social value.”

###

Note to editors:

  • 2.3 billion people worldwide do not have access to basic sanitation facilities, including 892 million people who have no choice but to defecate in the open. Open defecation is one of the clearest signs of extreme poverty and inequality.
  • For children under five, water and sanitation-related diseases are among the leading causes of preventable death. Every year, 288,000 children under the age of five die globally from diarrhoeal infections linked to poor access to safe drinking water and sanitation.
  • Toilets play a crucial role in keeping children healthy, preventing the spread of disease, and allowing them to live with dignity

Top Architects, Designers, Developers and Media converged at the first-ever LIXIL Spalet Iconic Tour 2018 in Nagoya, Japan – the birth place of Spalets and Ceramics.

Jul 26, 2018

INAX Museum

Over 50 of Asia’s top designers, architects, developers and media were invited to the first-ever LIXIL Spalet Iconic Tour 2018 in Nagoya, Japan where the highlight of the tour was the Dream Spalet Destination Competition 2018.

The Dream Spalet Destination Competition 2018 is a concerted effort on the company’s part for the Spalet culture to take root in Asia, by promoting toilet evolution from its traditional use to an unparalleled level of hygiene with Spalets.

The competition invites architects and designers from Asia Pacific to submit their hospitality projects featuring Spalet products (shower toilets/ electronic bidets seats) from any of LIXIL’s 3 brands – INAX, Grohe and American Standard. Shortlisted projects were featured on www.ilovespalet.com where consumers voted for their choice of a ‘Dream Spalet Destination’. An internal judging by LIXIL judges determined the 5 Finalist entries and they were invited to the LIXIL Spalet Iconic Tour 2018 in Nagoya, Japan where the Grand Winner Grande Centre Point Sukhumvit 55, Bangkok was revealed at the evening fete.

Finalists chosen to participate in the exclusive tour includes designers, architects and developers of Crowne Plaza Tainan, Grande Centre Point Sukhumvit 55 Bangkok, Okada Manila Philippines, The Lotus Boutique Hotel and The Myst Dong Khoi Hotel from Vietnam.

LIXIL Spalet Iconic Tour 2018 Highlights

Day 1, 12 July

On the first day of the tour, the architects and designers had the pleasure of visiting the LIXIL Nagoya showroom, where they were treated to the breadth and depth of LIXIL’s product offerings including shower toilets, tiles, windows and kitchens.

They also experienced an architectural tour around the megalopolis of the future – Nagoya Station. Guests toured the vicinity which included the JP Tower, JR Gate Tower, and the astonishing Dai Nagoya Building which rises to over 33,000 square meters of office and commercial spaces. The tower’s exterior was designed by the creator of Olympic logo himself, Asao Tokoro.

Day 2, 13 July

On the second day, guests took a trip down the memory lane at the INAX Tile Museum, where thousands of decorative tiles from all over the world are put on display. The tiles date back from the pre-Christian era to the modern age, along with the history of their development.

Blue and White Pottery Toilets from the late 19th and early 20th centuries

Olden days blue and white pottery toilets were also head-turners in the tour. In most Meiji-era (1868-1912) Japanese households, such blue and white ceramic bowls expressed the hospitality and thoughtfulness of the host, who chose the color white and blue to visually dispel the often-gloomy space of a bathroom. Guests also saw the first made-in-Japan shower toilet at work, still fully functional after more than half a century!

There was also a hands-on clay making workshop at the INAX Museum where architects, designers and the media experienced the joy of making Dorodango or ‘lustrous clay balls’.

Later in the evening, guests were entertained by a Samishen performance at the grand dinner – highlighting the beauty of Japanese culture and arts. LIXIL top executives took to the stage and wowed the audience with the great story of LIXIL’s pioneering history of innovation, technology and design evolution. The evening concluded with a surprise appearance by the Spalet Sensei and the announcement of the Dream Spalet Destination Grand prize Winner: Grande Centre Point Sukhumvit 55, Bangkok.

Cultural Practices in Japan That Have Inspired Modern Day Toilet Technologies

Jul 05, 2018

Without a doubt, the world’s admiration for Japanese technology is noteworthy. Most people know about Japan’s revolutionary toilets. While fairly common in Japan, shower toilets still garner ‘oohs’ and ‘wows’ in many parts of the world.

While that can be attributed to Japan being a powerhouse in innovation and technology, it is interesting to note that traditional Japanese cultural practices have also inspired the bathrooms of today.

Children in Japanese elementary schools clean their own classrooms and bathrooms. Japanese homes are always kept in pristine conditions. Hygiene is key and cleanliness is seen as a good moral value. Shower toilets with dual nozzles have self-cleaning anti-bacterial features that activates before, during, and after use to ensure hygiene and comfort for the next user, which is also a form of ‘considerate behavior’.

For many Japanese, the bath is a time for relaxation and a chance to reconnect with natural surroundings. To emulate such tranquility, the Japanese made bathrooms into sanctuaries with spa-like shower toilets that play music and onsen baths. This need for a ‘natural way of life’ can also be observed in Japanese houses where they usually have a garden and a small pond in front, with a Koto playing in the background. This makes their abodes an absolutely tranquil space for unwinding. Besides, water is the ‘natural way to clean’.

Minimalism is often associated with Japanese Zen-inspired design – which eliminates any unnecessary frills or decors. Ultimately, Japanese aesthetics are about becoming keenly conscious about our relationship with your surroundings. Our Spalet range of shower toilets and bidet seats are all designed with that in mind – simple, easy to use and blends in harmoniously with your bathroom décor.

Japanese taxis have automated doors to provide extra convenience for passengers. Japanese people will also greet you at establishments’ entrances by bending over and bowing their heads. The automated seat and cover on our Spalets take heed from such cultures. The seat cover opens up as you approach the bathroom, then bows down before and after use.

Japanese toilet innovations put consumers first.
Children, elderly, pregnant women, and people with disabilities are top of mind considerations when it comes to the Spalet. The toilet seat is ergonomically designed at the right height, with heated seats for user comfort. Remote controls are antibacterial and ensure the user doesn’t have to bend over to flush or close the lid cover, thus minimizing direct contact with the toilet. Night light is available for certain models so spouses do not disturb their partner’s rest when they visit the bathroom.

It’s amazing to know that the evolution of toilet technology stems from the Japanese culture, a great culture that’s considerate towards everyone’s well-being, and the world’s.

The Heritage And Evolution of Spalets

Jun 01, 2018

Japan is undoubtedly one of the most visited countries in the world. Did you know that besides its beautiful landscapes and greatly sought-after Japanese cuisine, Japan’s high level of hygiene standards are also globally recognized? Traditional Japanese bathroom cultures have inspired today’s clean, ultra-comfortable bathrooms that you see in luxury hotels, private resorts and even urban residential apartments.

Japanese shower toilets are symbolic of the country’s innovative technologies. They are often very much talked about, yet not many know its history and why it is a must-have item in the lives of the Japanese.

The Beginnings

So how did it all begin?

Interestingly, the word “bidet” was invented by the French, which means “pony”. It comes from the notion that one “straddles” a bidet like how a pony is ridden. Bidets originated in France sometime in the 17th century and were originally placed in the bedroom and not the bathroom. They would be filled with clean water and used to wash the private areas after the chamber pot was used. Bathing was not a common practice then, and a bidet could help with personal hygiene without requiring a full bath. With the development of indoor plumbing in the 19th and 20th centuries, the bidet was developed into a porcelain bowl and found its way into the bathroom.

The Modification

The evolution of the bidet started after WWII, when the Japanese started importing American made porcelain toilets which could be sat on compared to traditional Japanese squat toilets. This was a hit with the Japanese, as many of them suffered from piles/hemorrhoids due to the physical effort required to stay in a crouching position above traditional toilets. Over the years, the Japanese invented a device which you can attach to the existing toilet and shoots water to clean the intimate areas.

The Evolution

Japan now leads in technologically advanced bidet systems. More than 70% of all Japanese homes have an electronic bidet. INAX in Japan manufactured the first domestic shower toilet with a warm shower spray and dry function in 1967.

The first made-in-Japan shower toilet with a warm water shower spray and dry function.

A decade after, they added the heated seat feature to its first shower toilet seat – this was a first step toward spreading shower toilets in Japan. Decades later up till today, many of Japan’s innovations such as auto seat, auto flush, deodorizer, music, and smart phone remote control were invented and incorporated into our American Standard Spalet range of shower toilets. Today, American Standard offers an outstanding array of well-designed Spalet products ranging from manual bidets, e-bidets and shower toilets to suit any household needs and budget.

What Is A Must Have Item for Japanese Holiday-makers In Their Choice Of Accommodation?

May 04, 2018

Did you guess right? Shower toilets!

The Japanese pay extreme attention to details in all aspects of their lives. From the way a piece of paper is folded to exquisite product packaging, Japan’s sense of excellence lies in every detail.

And it is no surprise that their detail-oriented nature extends to even bathrooms.

Step into any bathroom in Japanese homes or hospitality establishments, and you will be impressed with the high cleanliness level and advanced technological features. From pristine appearances to smart toilet functions, guests have always marvelled at the convenience, comfort and seamless experience of Japanese bathrooms. This is the heart of Japanese hospitality.

Wondering why the Japanese swear by shower toilets or toilets with bidet facilities? Here is a list of reasons why you should hop on the bandwagon!

Hygiene Is Most Important

Do you know that 95% of users do not wash their hands correctly after a bathroom visit? Toilet paper makes it easy for harmful bacteria to transfer to our hands and other objects thereafter.

A bidet has proven to offer better personal hygiene compared to the use of toilet paper. It reduces close physical interaction with harmful bacteria found in faeces, as the user gets dedicated front and rear cleansing at just a touch of a button.

Feminine air bubble cleansing, which can be found in American Standard Spalet ranges, are a hit with ladies as it provides comfortable aerated water for gentle cleansing. Additionally, the self-cleansing dual nozzles are made of anti-bacterial materials to minimize any risk of cross contamination, lowering the risk of getting urinary-related infections such as Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).

Comfortable Cleansing

Shower toilets and electronic bidets improve bathroom comfort significantly – comfort that you can control to your personal preferences, such as water spray strength, water temperature and seat temperature. Using a gentle stream of water to cleanse is more pleasant than repetitive manual wiping. This holds especially true for those suffering from medical conditions, like haemorrhoids, where the use of rough toilet paper may cause further abrasion and pain.

It is no wonder that the Japanese love their shower toilets!

Convenient for all Ages

A common problem associated with traditional toilets is how you often have to awkwardly bend over to reach for the toilet paper. Traditional dippers or trigger sprays also may require awkward bending and do not offer much control, resulting in a wet mess on the toilet seat and floor. This causes danger in the bathroom, especially to little children, pregnant mothers or the elderly in the house.

Therefore, a shower toilet or bidet is much more favourable since it eliminates the need for bathroom acrobatics and keeps the toilet seat and floor dry, giving you complete peace of mind!

Eco-friendly

Millions of toilet paper rolls are used every year. Do you know making a single roll of toilet paper requires 37 gallons of water, 1.3 kilowatt/hours (KWh) of electricity and 1.5 pounds of wood?

Producing less toilet paper rolls also means slowing down deforestation and preserving watersheds – our main source of fresh water. Japan is known for their zero-waste policy, and clearly, the Japanese are doing their part in environmental efforts.

Most shower toilets have dual flush systems, which help to control water usage, hence reducing water consumption and making it an eco-friendly option.

If you’re looking to replicate the best kind of bathroom experience à la Japanese accommodations, that nails the three essential attributes of an all-rounded toilet – hygiene, comfort and convenience, do check out American Standard range of Spalet products.

What Will A Dream Destination Bathroom Look Like?

May 04, 2018

An unforgettable home away from home can take the form of plush beddings, infinity pools, gourmet food options and impeccable customer service. What about the bathroom? Have you ever wondered what a dream destination bathroom will look like?

Avid travellers will agree that a dream destination experience comes down to the smallest of details – Fluffy pillows, scented rooms, furry towels. Few will notice the subtle but persuasive influence the bathroom has on guests.

The bathroom is becoming one of the top reasons how an ordinary destination can take on the coveted title of a dream destination.

And rightly so for two simple reasons.

Firstly, in a world struggling for liveable area, space has become a much sought-after commodity. Space is a luxury! Homes are becoming smaller, and bathroom sizes are shrinking. Few homes can accommodate even a bathtub. It is no wonder that holiday makers awe at vacation destinations with spacious bathrooms with a bubble bath.

Imagine this: Stepping into your holiday accommodation’s bathroom in the morning and feeling awed by nature’s beauty through a large window pane – a spectacular sea view that glistens in the sunlight. What is better than luxuriating in a bubble bath amongst the great expanse?

Liveable space. Dream bathrooms are made of these – space and if you are lucky, an infinity view.

Secondly, we spend a hefty amount of time in the bathroom. And we really mean quite a substantial amount of time.

Traditionally a functional room for routine cleansing, the bathroom has evolved into a living space to spend more time in, be it personal or couple-time. With the surge in mobile usage, the average person also tends to bring their phones into the bathroom with them, accounting for an increased amount of time spent in this personal space. With so much private time spent in this utilitarian room, much has been done to make vacation bathrooms ‘liveable’, relaxing and convenient.

Twice as nice. For many, a dream destination bathroom comes equipped with twin basins for big smiles, clean faces and plenty of convenience for guests.

Convenience these days come guised in high-tech innovations investments in holiday destinations. What if a visit to the dream bathroom is a service-inspired one where the toilet greets you by self-opening its lid, serenading you with customizable music, warming you with a heated seat and does all your hygienic cleansing? Now if that isn’t the crème de la crème of a Dream Destination Bathroom, what is?

Convenience also comes in high-tech packages such as the likes of a smart toilet that cleanse and dries the user, and even deodorizes the air.

For example, the Japanese are known to be some of the most cordial and courteous locals, and most will agree that the country fits into traveller’s high standards of cleanliness, with a rich heritage and interesting cultural rituals.

Spa

Perhaps a spa getaway is all we need and if a destination provides that, it is a dream come true. Knead tired muscles and put fatigue out of both mind and body.

Top 6 Misconceptions About Bidets & Shower Toilets, Debunked

Apr 11, 2018

It’s a long-standing argument that has been going back and forth in the name of hygiene: Should we wipe or wash after using the toilet?

This isn’t the easiest conversation to have since not many are comfortable revealing their toilet habits. However, the sticky nature of the issue makes it necessary to do an audit on our bathroom habits.

Will you shower with a dry towel after a day of grime?

Why then, do most of us assume that dry toilet paper cleans you thoroughly after a toilet visit?

Here, we wipe off some common misconceptions and offer some clean facts on shower toilets and bidets.

Misconception #1: “I waste more water if I use a bidet.”

More than 35 gallons of water are used to produce a single roll of toilet paper.

Clean fact: Advocates counter that the amount of water used for bidet-cleansing is trivial compared to how much water is used to produce toilet paper.

Misconception #2: “Using bidets are not environmentally friendly.”

Millions of trees are pulped a year for toilet paper. The damage is also hard to reverse, considering that the regrowth of trees happens at a much slower rate than water conservation – a practice that can be implemented with immediacy. Tons of chlorine are used for bleaching the paper and significant amounts of energy and materials are also used in packaging of toilet paper.

Clean fact: Toilet paper can also clog pipes and adds a load on city sewage systems and water treatment plants. When you use a bidet like our Spalet range of products, it is actually much less stressful on the environment than using paper.

Misconception #3: “A bidet is unhygienic, especially if shared amongst users.”

Most infections are caused by bacteria entering the lower urinary tract – the bladder and the urethra.Toilet paper does not remove bacteria so much as simply moving it around! In fact, the friction or rubbing away with dry toilet paper can lead to irritation, injury and haemorrhoids. Worse, if you are wiping back to front instead of front to back, you could be moving bacteria from the anus to your urethra.

Clean fact: A bidet cleans more effectively than smearing dirt and bacteria around with toilet paper. The precise washing angle of more than 70 degrees ensure a thorough wash. American Standard selected range of Spalet products come with anti-bacteria dual nozzles, self-cleaning nozzles and a nozzle shutter that prevents waste materials from getting to the nozzle tips to ensure high levels of hygiene.

Misconception #4: “When I use toilet paper and wash my hands, it’s cleaner than touching a bidet as bacteria and germs can fester on the bidet and its remote control.”

Faecal bacteria can lead to very serious problems like Salmonella – a common bacterial disease that affects the intestinal tract. Using toilet paper to clean yourself may potentially increase the chances of contracting bacterial diseases from faecal bacteria as your hand comes into close contact when wiping.

Clean fact: Shower toilets and bidets provide hands-free cleanse, so you minimize any direct/indirect contact with faecal waste. Besides, selected American Standard Spalet models also offer Anti-bacterial protection on their remote controls for your complete peace of mind.

Misconception #5: “The water that comes out of the nozzles for cleansing is the same water for flushing the toilet.”

The water inlets of American Standard Spalet range of products are directly connected to the water source used for your showers and faucets.

Clean fact: The water for both feminine air bubble cleansing and posterior cleansing come from a fresh water supply to ensure a hygienic cleanse.

Misconception #6: “Shower toilets & electronic bidets, even manual bidets are pricey.”

Comparing the cost of a pack of toilet paper to a shower toilet or electronic bidets may not seem justifiable at once, but the pros of a shower toilet/ bidet far outweigh that of toilet paper in terms of hygiene standards. Many toilet paper brands have been reducing the plies in each roll while keeping prices constant or increasing prices. Calling for a plumber when the toilet bowl is clogged from toilet paper also adds on to the hassle.

Clean fact: If your basic requirement is a clean nether region, consider investing in a manual or electronic bidet that is definitely gentler and will leave you cleaner than a dry wipe.

Washing not only cleans the intimate regions, but also proves to be more hygienic and environmentally friendly, and in the long run, more economical.

How To Maximize Space In Small Bathrooms

Mar 14, 2018

With the current trend of smaller living spaces, one of the objectives in interior décor is to maximize the space we are getting out of every room in the home. In this instance, the bathroom. How can we save ample space in the bathroom to give it a bigger, fresher and livelier look? Can petite bathrooms really be a viable place to wind down after a long day?

Firstly, it is essential to know your bathroom design layout. Decide what you value most in your bathroom, be it a larger vanity, bigger shower area or the importance of a wet and dry zone and build from there. This helps in careful space planning for homeowners, particularly first-timers.

With this, we offer you a few nifty fixes you can easily employ that will help create a bigger look for your bathroom, with some good tips from our American Standard VP of Design, Antoine Besseyre des Horts.

Install Good Lighting

Plan your lighting carefully. In a small bathroom, good lighting in combination with bright walls and a large mirror helps to make the space airier and bigger. A window lets natural light in, opens the space to the outside and therefore evokes a sense of spaciousness. Try recessed lighting – it blends in well with any bathroom layout and does not “bring the ceiling down”, causing the bathroom to feel shorter. Recessed lighting also minimizes strong shadows and creates a softer environment. If you want to create a soothing ambience, you can mount wall sconces on the mirror or cove lights behind the mirror.

Alternatively, play with natural light and sunshine by fitting a window to allow more sunlight to enter and light up the bathroom.

Avoid Colorful Wallpapers

Colorful or patterned wallpapers are great if you want to personalize your bathroom and bring playfulness, however they often break up space as they can be very distracting to the eyes – making a constrained bathroom space appear even tighter. It is better to apply bright pastel colors of the same hues on the walls as they will reflect light and visually harmonize the space, giving an illusion of space.

On a side note, to express your sense of individuality, introduce colors to your bathroom space with accessories, towels and decorations.

Install Mirrors

A statement mirror can be your small bathroom’s focal masterpiece. Large mirrors influence an increased sense of space perception making the bathroom seem more open and airy without compromising the actual square footage. A tip from Antoine on creating visual space: To make your bathroom feel bigger, brighter, and more open, you can apply a large mirror stretched across the entire wall above the sink or counter. It adds some spaciousness and depth to your bathroom as the mirror reflects the light and the whole environment.

Another space-saving trick is to install mirrored cabinets. Not only will it give you extra storage, but also serve a dual function of making your small bathroom look roomier.

Install Built-in Fixtures and Storage

Avoid placing a stand-alone cabinet in your bathroom for storage as they consume additional space both on the floor and walls. Built-in storage is the perfect way to hide clutter, offering a sleeker solution and enhancing the feeling of space in a petite bathroom.

“Install a wall mounted vanity, it will trick the eye by making the bathroom seem larger. If you must use a free-standing one, opt for one with slimmer legs as they give an optical illusion of more open space,” offers Antoine.

Choosing the Right Bathroom Wares

You can optimize the functionality and accessibility of the space by choosing the right combination of bathroom wares and fittings. For example, opt for a corner sink that does not consume as much space as a regular sink. Similarly, wall-hung basins keep the floor area clear. You can also save space by installing a wall mounted faucet which allows for a narrower sink or vanity.

In the shower area, consider a fixed see-through glass panel instead of a glass shower door that requires additional space for opening and closing. Alternatively, install a clear shower curtain which can be easily tucked to the side when not in use, so you can see all the way to the back wall.

Every inch of space in your bathroom is a luxury – utilize it!

Why You Should Go Big On Small Bathrooms

Mar 02, 2018

Who doesn’t dream of a big luxurious bathroom?

The thought of a spacious bathroom almost immediately relaxes one’s state of mind. However, with the growing trend of small apartments, many homeowners find that the size of bathrooms are also fast diminishing. Most homeowners now face the challenge of trying to fit wares and fittings into small, even tiny bathroom spaces.

Still, small bathrooms can work for you. Compact, functional bathrooms can be a bigger appeal to home dwellers, in large part due to the ease of cleaning.

Let us examine some reasons why you should embrace smaller bathrooms – especially if you have, or are planning to downsize to a smaller apartment.

After all, doesn’t the saying go, “The best things come in small packages”?

Smaller bathrooms force you to be more creative!

Working singles or small families usually tend to live in 30 to 50 square-meter apartments, which implies there is little space left for the bathroom. This situation is inevitable if you’re living in a densely populated urban city, along with the growing demand for small yet accessible living spaces.

This has resulted in people adapting to their smaller areas and getting resourceful to work with their limited space.

With smaller bathrooms, you get to be more creative. In other words, you start to think big with small spaces! Creative storage solutions (often hidden), interesting interior décor, accessible placement of daily necessities become the focus. Smaller bathroom spaces are also easier to work with. There are lesser walls to be tiled, painted, or wall-papered. And if you make a mistake, it is less costly and easier to rectify. You will also learn the best way to layout tiles (horizontally or vertically) to make your enclosed space look more spacious.

Easy to Clean

The bathroom is probably the room in the house with the highest traffic, and likely the room that needs to be cleaned more frequently to avoid the spread of bacteria such as E.Coli. While a spacious bathroom may cause homeowners to dread cleaning, a smaller one saves considerable time to focus on things you love, such as spending time with your loved ones.

Easy Maintenance

Small spaces are undoubtedly easier to maintain. Other than cleanliness, you worry less when it comes to small repairs or replenishment of bathroom supplies. At a glance, you can take stock of everything – whether it is a leaky faucet or a diminishing bar of soap that needs to be replaced.

Smaller spaces mean everything is more accessible

With manic routine lifestyles where people are always in a hurry, it is best to access everything – preferably within an arm’s reach. Bathroom wares and fittings nowadays are designed creatively to complement small spaces without risking functionality. Bathroom wares like basins and toilets even incorporate storage solutions these days into their design, such as the likes of American Standard’s Flexio toilet. It presents a unique tank lid design that provides a secure holding place for your mobile device.

From space-saving bathroom collections to smart fixtures, American Standard offers a variety of high-quality bathroom solutions that fit everyone’s needs, including small bathrooms. Find more details here.

How to Build Your Dream Bathroom

Feb 21, 2018

Don’t know how to design a dream bathroom? Here are some useful tips from American Standard’s VP of Design, Antoine Besseyre des Horts.

The blueprint for a dream home will always come with a perfect bathroom. Bathrooms no longer just function as a shower space, they have since evolved to become living spaces. In today’s often stressful and chaotic lives, the bathroom plays a very important role. It has turned into the only space in the household where you can indulge in some personal time to relax, rejuvenate, and re-energize.

So how does one design a dream bathroom?

Through a thoughtful layout and arrangement of fixtures, materials, colors, and lighting, the bathroom can offer a sophisticated balance between convenience and individual comfort.

“The dream bathroom must be easy to use and clean, ergonomic, safe, provide a sense of well-being, and express one’s personal style,” says Antoine.

“Also, because of the global urbanization phenomenon, space is becoming a luxury so we are increasingly looking for solutions which allow us to optimize it, and at the same time, offer storage solutions.”

Here are some things to consider while planning your dream bathroom – one that will resonate perfectly with the host and guests alike.

Layout and Functionality

Understanding the available space in the bathroom is the very first step. Start by taking some precise measurements and take into account the available sizes and typologies of toilet, basin, vanity, shower as well as bathtub for your required space. Consider who uses the bathroom, how often they visit it, and allow for easy access areas for amenities. Plan adequate space around bathroom fixtures so users are comfortable. Defining the right height for the sink and a suitably-sized vanity ensure comfort and adequate storage space.

“A floor standing vanity will offer more storage options but a wall mounted one can help the bathroom appear bigger in terms of visible floor space. Ideally, you should also plan some storage around the showering and toilet areas to store toiletries and housekeeping products,” adds Antoine.

For those who don’t have the luxury of bathroom space to accommodate both shower area and a bathtub, you can incorporate an overhead shower over the bathtub and enjoy the best of both worlds. Add a curtain or glass panel to prevent water from splashing out of the tub area.

With a humid environment like the bathroom, bad smells and mold can be a concern. If your bathroom doesn’t come with a window, deter mold and smells with a ventilation fan.

Good Lighting

The bathroom has evolved to become a place of retreat and rejuvenation for the body and mind. It is a multi-purpose space where people perform various bathing, cleansing and housekeeping rituals in different areas. Lighting is therefore very important as it can affect the way we feel and behave as well as how the space is perceived. Choose the right lighting solution based on the activities and rituals you are performing in the different areas.

Makeup, grooming and cleansing takes place around the basin area, so direct and overhead lighting with intensity control is particularly useful.

In the bath and shower area, an indirect and diffused lighting will help you to relax and indulge in your personal ritual. Natural light revitalizes and supports one’s natural daily rhythms. A skylight in your bathroom will definitely elevate the showering experience. If you can’t have a lot of natural light, there are light fixture options that can closely mimic the daylight effect.

Motif, Color, Texture

The bathroom is a personal space and should reflect your personality! Choose colors, patterns and textures which matches your style and enhance the layout without compromising on functionality and maintenance.

Spend time choosing the right colors as they can affect your mood and space perception. Light colors will reflect light and make the space feel more inviting, larger, and more open. On the contrary, dark colors absorb light and tend to make the space look smaller and denser.

Applying colors of the same hues in different areas of the bathroom will help to visually harmonize the space, making it look bigger. Contrasting colors break up space and can make an area look smaller.

Muted tones will provide more coziness to the space while vibrant ones – warm or cool – will provide a more playful touch to the room and create some points of focus.

Patterns and textures need to be also carefully considered! They can be used to make an aesthetic statement or to trick the eye to make the room feel more spacious. However, some prints and textures can also create visual busyness and make the space look smaller. Use square or rectangular large-scale tiles to provide a modern, sophisticated and premium flair to the space while making it look bigger. Use small size tiles to add unique details, create accent walls or inject some playfulness into the room.

Luxury and Entertainment

Nowadays, luxury is less about extravagance and exclusivity and more about self-indulgence and self-transformation! You can tailor your bathroom by choosing from a wide variety of materials, colors, lighting and textures that will transform it into an elegant and sophisticated oasis of well-being. The latest innovations in showers, faucets and smart toilets will provide you with enhanced convenience and let you indulge in soothing and entertaining experiences.

Add a Soft Touch

Concrete confinements, especially for small bathrooms, may give off an uncomfortable sense of barren coldness. You can add softness and bring coziness to the environment by introducing warm and authentic materials such as stone and wood in the bathroom. Products featuring gentle surfaces and edges will make the overall environment more inviting. Natural light or diffused and indirect lighting coupled with pastel tones on walls will also greatly enhance the relaxing atmosphere. Window treatments like shades, blinds, and shutters add a soft touch while maintaining privacy, light control, moisture, and humidity. Create interest by adding plants, accessories or furniture to emphasize that the bathroom is not only dedicated to your personal hygiene, but it is indeed a true living space.

How To Create The Perfect ‘His-and-Hers’ Bathroom

Feb 02, 2018

While the bathroom has evolved over time to become a sanctuary for singles and families, it has also become a special place for couples. With comfort and ergonomics as the usual priorities in most bathrooms, there is much room to explore in the aesthetics aspect – for a gender-friendly bathroom.

A bathroom once perfect for just one, could well become a cramped and disorganized for two. A unisex concept could also be tricky to pull off.

Here are 5 tips to maximize comfort and create that perfect dream bathroom environment to indulge together as a couple.

Color

Start with the basics – consider colours and textures when designing a bathroom. While men go for colors like grey and darker shades, these color palettes may not appeal to the ladies. To start the ball rolling, eliminate colors that both parties dislike and pick a color, possibly a mix of neutrals, that both can accept.

White is a perfect colour that promotes neutrality and modernised upshot. It not only reflects a relaxing, fresh and clean environment, but is also easy on the eyes. This is the same reason why modern bathrooms in hotels and other hospitality establishments usually decorate the interiors of bathrooms in white, with clean lines to boot. A quick tip, enhance the white interior with a touch of individuality by adding brightly-colored towels, potted plants and bathroom accessories. This will also denote individual space!

Space

Modern apartments are getting smaller these days, and bathroom spaces naturally also narrow. But designing the perfect ‘his-and-hers’ bathroom doesn’t require that much space, despite needing to accommodate two persons at once. The trick is to install space-efficient fittings and wares to maximise bathroom space.

The lack of counter space is a common bathroom issue. While it may not be ideal to have two sinks as counter space is further compromised, additional shelving can be added in the form of a vanity or a mirror cabinet. If space is available at the sides of vanity, install shelves on each side to free up more space at the sink or have hand towel rods on both sides.

These days, it is common that individuals bring their mobile phones into the bathroom. Some of our American Standard toilets come with a unique tank lid design that doubles as a commodity holder function to safely place personal items such as magazines and phones, and even a potted plant or two!

Taking Sides

Sometimes, it is inevitable to take a side. Men often complain that women take up the most space when it comes to the bathroom or the wardrobe. And perhaps splitting the bathroom space exactly into two sides will provide that solution. In fact, by separating your bathtub and shower area, both parties can get ready at the same time!

How about a ‘his and hers’ intimate wash?

Holiday resorts have ‘his-and-hers’ vanity spaces as a thoughtful gesture for individual prepping. But when it comes to the toilet, does one toilet suffice?

Indeed, one toilet should suffice, especially if it is a toilet with bidet-cleansing functions. American Standard offers a multitude of manual, electronic bidet seats and shower toilets with dedicated dual nozzle cleansing for both posterior and feminine cleansing. Females will appreciate the feminine air bubble cleansing function which carries aerated water for a softer and more delicate cleanse.

Achieving a Balance

It is true that achieving the perfect ‘his-and-hers’ space is a tough balancing act, and moderation is key. Careful coordination in design themes is essential, as mixing-and-matching various bathroom fixtures in different styles may result in a disorganized and sloppy look. Find a common element amongst the fixtures to ensure cohesion in the overall bathroom design.

American Standard’s Flexio Collection, which combines both strong masculine lines and soft feminine silhouettes in its design, is a fitting choice for creating a ‘his and hers’ bathroom. Flexio Collection allows easy pairing to achieve a harmonious balance in aesthetics, appealing to both genders.

Another collection – Concept Nuovo, also offers the design and space versatility required for a gender-friendly bathroom while catering to individual design preferences. The collection features an extensive choice of fixtures and fittings that you can mix-and-match with, while still projecting a balanced, modern interplay of robustness and feminism.

Ergonomics – The Most Overlooked Element In Your Bathroom

Dec 20, 2017

Good design evokes images of pleasing aesthetics, although marrying both form and function is de rigueur in space design, particularly in the bathroom. Many of us often disregard one very important element that makes all the difference: Bathroom ergonomics.

While achieving a pleasing design may precede over functionality for some, paying attention to the latter will save homeowners much hassle and frustration in their daily routine.

Can you weave in ergonomics, yet conceptualise an aesthetically pleasing bathroom that will reflect your lifestyle habits? Here are a number of ergonomic design considerations you should not overlook when planning a bathroom design.

In the Toilet Area

  1. Place the paper roll holder within reach

The toilet paper holder should be installed slightly in front of the edge of the toilet bowl, such that you do not need to bend, stretch or twist your body in awkward positions to reach it. For bathrooms decked with e-bidets or shower toilets, handheld remote controls should also be placed within arm’s length reach as well for added convenience.

  2. Right height

When selecting a new toilet, the ideal toilet height will depend on how tall you are, your physical needs and the way in which you get on or off the toilet. The goal is to select one with a height that allows you comfortably have both feet flat on the floor while seated and where you can stand up from the toilet with much ease.

American Standard toilets are designed at a “right height” – the same height as a standard chair which makes getting on and off the toilet easier. Based on the ergonomic height of a chair which is between 350mm – 510mm, American Standard offers a suite of Right Height toilets which are designed to be within the ergonomic height range (between 400mm – 430mm, including the seat) that makes it convenient and effortless to get up from a seated position. This is especially important for the elderly, the pregnant and the disabled. If you are living in a home with multiple people and only one toilet, select a toilet that is a good compromise that will suit the needs of all members.

  3. Ergonomic fit contoured to your body

Sometimes, we do spend a longer time sitting on the toilet bowl, so it is imperative that the seat is a comfortable one. Choose a seat that does not have a sharp edge on the inner rim to avoid having painful seat marks after your visit. Designed with consumers’ comfort in mind, American Standard toilet bowls incorporate a comfort curve seat feature that ensures ergonomic fit around the posterior, even when one sits for an extended period of time. The company also furnished its seat and cover with a soft closing action to negate the harsh clatter of a falling seat.

  4. Larger push button for the flush

It can get pretty annoying trying to press at a small flush button, not to mention that it is harder also to hold onto the button for a stronger flush. Try to purchase a toilet with slightly bigger push button for convenience.

Our American Standard toilets come with ‘Comfort push button’ which has a larger surface area for ease of use, especially for ladies with long nails. A bigger sized flush button is also more user-friendly for the elderly to operate.

  5. No bending backwards for the bidet spray

Most toilets these days are equipped with a trigger spray and they are usually located to the left or right side of the toilet. However, this also means that a user will have to twist his body around to reach for the spray. It may be more convenient to install the trigger spray next to the seated user, but that wall is usually taken up by the paper roll holder.

With our American Standard Spalet range of manual and electronic bidets, a hygienic cleanse is just a convenient manoeuvre of a lever or a press of a button. There is no more body twisting to reach for a trigger spray behind you, which can be uncomfortable especially for injury-prone elderly.

In the Shower Area

  1. Ensure position of towel rails are within reach

For your comfort and safety, it pays to think of how you can contain wet zones to avoid slippery floors. An easy way is to position your towel rails within easy reach of your shower enclosure, instead of the opposite side of the bathroom. This will minimize any risks of slipping on a wet floor while you are reaching out for a towel to dry yourself. If you prefer the subtleness of a towel hook to the lengthiness of a rail, install the hook no more than an arm’s length from where you will step out after your shower.

  2. Position of drain

When using a rain head shower, do not position the drain directly below it. Because you will not want to flood the shower area when standing on the drain while showering.

In the Basin/Vanity Area

  1. Thoughtful faucet design

This ‘ergonomic check’ is easily overlooked. Some faucets may look deceivingly beautiful, but the space between the handle and the spout is so tight that people with bigger hands will find it not user-friendly.

Adequate space between the handle and the spout allows for ease of faucet use, and some of American Standard faucets are thoughtfully designed with this Comfort space feature. This is especially conducive especially for men with larger hands.

Ergonomics can even stretch to the smaller details. Minimalistic-looking faucets may look great but the sharp edges are potential deal-breakers. Besides, sharp edges are not comfortable to the touch. By adding a groove under some of our American Standard faucets (a thumb-like indentation on the underside of the lever such as the Compact Codie faucet), this seemingly unassuming design feature becomes a distinctive and comfortable element for the user for easy grip and comfortable lever lifting.

  2. Raise the height of vanities

The height of vanities really depends also on the type of basins you install on or in the vanity. For example, if you like the trendy look of a vessel basin mounted on top of your vanity, think twice about raising the height of the vanity as you may end up at an awkward angle of washing your hands. If you are having a recessed sink in the vanity, then consider raising the vanity’s height. The rule of thumb here is ensure the most comfortable angle for hand washing. A good gauge is to get members of the household to stand next to the vanity with basin (vessel or recessed) and determine what is the best height for all.

Finally, when it boils down to bathroom ergonomics, good space planning should not be neglected as well. Sometimes the placement of a product in the right location will make all the difference.

By placing the right wares at the right place, it enables easy access and improves functionality in the bathroom. Coupled with the ergonomic features in every small product detail, a visit to the bathroom should be just as it is – a relaxing sanctuary.

Latest Bathroom Trend – Green Is The Way To Go

Dec 20, 2017

In recent years, “Going Green” has been an influential aspect to consider when evaluating any interior space designs. Do you realise that bathrooms are by far the main source of water use, despite being the smallest room in a residential or commercial space? The bathroom is the room where we do a variety of cleaning routines with the purpose of keeping us healthy. As such, water-saving and energy-saving features are becoming increasingly popular in bathroom innovations.

At American Standard, we have been raising the standards of not just sanitary levels, but also bathroom technology over the years, incorporating the green factor. The five features discussed below illustrate how American Standard stands out in terms of its environmentally friendly competences – from hand showers to faucets and toilets to shower toilets.

Airnergize Technology

Limited clean water sources have long been a global concern. 97% of the water on Earth is salt water and only three percent is fresh water. Saving precious water is an ongoing environmental concern. Choosing a different handshower or overhead shower with water saving capability not only lower your water consumption, but also brings down your utility bills.

American Standard addresses this concern with the development of Airnergize technology. This key feature, present in Acacia Evolution Collection handshower, offers a luxurious shower with 20% water savings. It works by drawing air into the water stream using a concealed opening at the bottom of the handshower. Water droplets will then be imbued with air bubbles resulting in a fuller shower spray, while effectively saving water.

Eco Handle Faucet

Unlike conventional mixers, American Standard’s Eco Handle releases cold water instead of warm water upon lifting up the lever. This saves precious energy as it prevents the boiler from heating up, providing up to 30% energy savings for homeowners. To get warm water, you only need to move the lever to the left.

Click Technology

Building on the “Green” aspect by American Standard, some of our faucets come with Click Technology. This technology initiates a resistance midway when lifting up the handle. This way, users will not use more water than necessary during the wash – an effective control against users’ instinct to raise the handle to full volume.

Rimless Flushing System

Another breakthrough in water-saving technology by American Standard is the Double Vortex Flush that maximizes flushing performance with minimum water usage.

While traditional toilets with rim holes are susceptible to stain woes, Double Vortex Flush technology ejects 100% of the water through two water openings, creating a powerful vortex which cleans the bowl thoroughly. The rimless design further ensures no dirt accumulates over time, making cleaning a cinch.

Apart from an efficient flushing system, Double Vortex uses 2.6 litres of water for a half flush (compared to the usual 3 litres of water used in conventional dual flush toilets), and 4 litres for a full flush compared to 6 litres for a conventional single flush toilet. This equates to approximately 22,776 litres of water saved in a year for a family of 4.

One-touch Power Saver

For most American Standard shower toilets and electronic bidet seats, users have the option to switch to power saving mode.

At a touch, water heating and seat heating functions shut down while cleansing and flushing features will still operate. Original settings will resume after 8 hours, saving a whole day’s worth of energy consumption.

Additionally, American Standard boasts an energy saving intelligence to conserve more energy. The Aerozen shower toilet in the Milano collection is equipped with an automated circuit breaker that immediately cuts off the power supply during unusual power situations. This feature helps to further conserve energy.

Our efforts to raising the standard of living starts from our products. With these innovative green technologies to boot, American Standard aims to make the world a cleaner and greener environment for all.

5 Reasons Why Holidaymakers are Looking for Accommodation with Bidet Facilities

Dec 01, 2017

Holiday accommodation are aplenty these days. Travellers in a foreign city have no doubt rejoiced over budget apartment rentals, homely serviced apartments and high-tech hotel suites. Although it is a case of ‘different folks, different strokes’ when it comes to accommodation preferences, there is something that is sure to please all holiday makers alike: accommodation with bidet facilities. At American Standard, we have a full range of shower toilets, e-bidets and manual bidets or what we fondly call ‘Spalet’ – which means ‘spa in a toilet’.

These five reasons highlight how this bathroom innovation can be the difference maker in hotel properties and humble private residences.

Spa-like experience

Gone are the days of traditional bathroom needs; with the increasing amount of time spent in bathrooms, people now desire a spa-like experience. With our Spalet product range, it is enhanced with pampering spa-like functions to deliver the ultimate comfort, cleanliness and hygiene. One of such features includes dual nozzles cleansing function for dedicated front and rear cleansing. For ladies, you will delight in the fact that one of the nozzles is specifically designed for feminine cleansing – the spray water comes infused with air bubbles to bathe a lady’s delicate region for a spa-like sensation.

The comfort that users get to enjoy with our Spalet product range also extends to other customisable selections such as adjustable spray strength, controllable water volume and a posterior massage shower – something that will prove to be a hit with all travellers.

Cleaner and more convenient

The use of toilet paper is certainly troublesome, especially if you have exhausted the toilet roll in the bathroom and don’t know where to look for refills (imagine the awkwardness!). Additionally, rough toilet paper may cause abrasion and pain. Taking its place are the dual cleansing nozzles which can be activated by remote control buttons or by controlling a lever for manual bidets. The anti-bacterial nozzles are also rinsed before and after use, eliminating bacteria growth and contamination. Thus, nozzle cleansing provides a more effective and thorough ‘bottom wash’, suitable for people with allergies or sensitive skin too. The adjustable spray strength also provides a soothing and therapeutic feeling. Using shower toilets or e-bidets and manual bidet seats are certainly more convenient. You don’t need to bend over in an awkward position to reach for the trigger spray or the flush!

Smart features that make travellers feel welcome

Upon stepping into the bathroom, the sensor in our shower toilets detects your presence, and will welcome you by automatically opening the seat cover – much like how a friend will receive you with ‘open arms’!

After usage, the seat cover then quietly and gently closes automatically. Furthermore, toilets are ergonomically designed at a ‘right height’ for that extra comfort and ease of getting on and off the bowl.

Travellers who have a knack for taking their own time in bathrooms may also switch on the music function from the control panel not only to mask unpleasant sounds, but for a form of personalised entertainment.

Emulates ‘hotel-style’ bathrooms

Bathrooms in the past are the most utilitarian room in the house. However, in today’s modern society, consumers hanker after both luxurious features and functionality in a bathroom.

With bidet seats or shower toilets, users get to enjoy an array of ‘concierge service’ features, such as an in-built night light, heated seat, auto-deodorizer and feminine air bubble cleansing that provide the ultimate hygienic cleansing experience and convenience. A bathroom with shower toilets or bidet seats add an instant touch of technology and class, matching those of hotels. Choose from our extensive range of Spalet products, from classic, modern to contemporary designs to emulate ‘hotel-style’ bathrooms that holidaymakers love.

Find comfort in every corner

Who doesn’t want a fresh smelling toilet throughout the day? The carbon filter on our bidet seats and the auto-deodorizer gets rid of bad odour for a pleasant bathroom trip. Automated dryer function provides a hands-free service to keep your bottom dry after cleansing. The seamlessly designed Comfort seat was crafted with a perfect fit in mind, cradling users’ bottoms as they settle comfortably into the toilet. It also has a warming function that can be activated at a touch of the button by the side panel. A heated seat welcomes you warmly in cold climates, something winter holiday makers appreciate greatly.

Now, then, is it any wonder Spalet makes the holiday for holiday makers?

Spend Lesser Time Cleaning Your Toilet

Dec 01, 2017

When it comes to domestic chores, putting on a pair of latex gloves and scrubbing toilets remains low on people’s priority list, as few fancy getting their hands dirty – literally. Could there be a way to automate the process so we have the luxury of time for something more important, like spending time with our family?

In the Spalet product range, we leverage on 50 years of shower toilet expertise from one of our three brands – INAX. Read on to find out how these innovative features keep both you and your bathroom clean and hygienic.

Seamless Seat

One of the more cumbersome parts of toilet cleaning is the need for cleaning tools, just so you can reach into crook and crannies where bacteria may linger and accumulate. Typically, heated seats require two-piece construction, which usually results in a visible seam that collects dirt and bacteria. An exclusive INAX process encases the seat’s warming element between two stain-resistant resin pieces, which are now fused and polished together, removing the visible ridge of traditional toilets where dirt and bacteria may accumulate. This makes cleaning a breeze.

Smart Disinfectant Technology

Enter PlasmaCluster – a tested and proven air disinfecting technology that purifies both the toilet bowl and the entire bathroom for you in a safe way. Specifically, it is a patented air disinfectant technology that releases both positive and negative ions into the environment. When the ions come in contact with the surface of a mold spore, bacteria or virus, they transform into OH radicals with extremely powerful oxidation properties. The OH radicals instantly draw hydrogen from the proteins on the bacteria surface and breaks down the proteins. The combination of an OH radical with hydrogen (H) then creates water (H20), which returns to the atmosphere.

The PlasmaCluster is one of the many touch-free technologies in our Spalet product range that does not require manual activation after bathroom use. This means you can relax and enjoy a new feeling of cleanliness with minimal effort.

Aqua Ceramic – 100 Years of Clean

The revolutionary Aqua Ceramic Technology which features super-hydrophilicity on the ceramic surface, allowing waste to be lifted off with just the power of water, comes with a decade long declaration of clean. The innovative technology comes from INAX to combat stains and water scales from building up in the toilet bowl. To prevent hard water stains that occur when silica in the water chemically combines with hydroxyl groups (-OH) on the surface, Aqua Ceramic technology utilises a structure without exposed hydroxyl groups. This keeps the ceramic surface flat and smooth, and stops the formation of hard water stains. The accelerated wear test attests to approximately 70,000 wet sponge cleaning cycles i.e. cleaning with a wet non-abrasive sponge twice a day, every day.

Comfort Clean Technology

ComfortClean is an antibacterial glaze containing zinc oxide as an antibacterial agent which is applied on top of the China glaze on the ceramic bowl. The ComfortClean glaze is fired into the ceramic ware at more than 1000 degree celsius to ensure long lasting effectiveness protection against bacteria and germs. Tested by the Industrial Microbiological Services Limited (IMSL), ComfortClean inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew, making cleaning hassle-free and eliminating the probability of catching E.Coli bacteria which can cause stomach distress.

Anti-bacterial Seat

A primary motivation for cleaning toilets on a regular basis is to keep it free of E.coli, a fecal-borne bacteria that is transmittable, contagious and clings to seats. Even if you were to scrub toilet seats clean with the best detergent, it is hard to avoid coming into physical contact with toilet surfaces which may harbour the illness-causing bacteria. Our Spalet range of shower toilets, e-bidets and manual bidets come with anti-bacteria seat and cover. We are also the first to be SIAA certified for antibacterial efficacy on toilet seats. SIAA (Society of Industrial Technology for Antimicrobial Articles) is a global standard measuring antibacterial activity on plastics and other non-porous surfaces.

Detachable Self-Cleaning Nozzles

Although the cleansing nozzles do not come into direct contact with the user, users may have a fear of backsplash on the nozzles. With our Spalet bidet range, the nozzle tips are rinsed before and after use to ensure quality hygiene standards. Some of our bidet seats and shower toilets come with nozzle shutter to further protect the nozzles. For additional peace of mind, homeowners can even detach the nozzles for easy cleaning, doing away with the traditional and unnecessary labour of cleaning the nozzles from inside of the bowl. Similar to the seat, our self-cleaning nozzles are also designed with anti-bacterial additives infused into the material.

Minimal cleaning effort, sparkling clean toilet and fewer visits to the doctor. Can there be a better winning combination than our Spalet product range?

Visit our Spalet website www.ilovespalet.com for more details.

These 10 Reasons Will Make You Want A Spalet In Your Toilet Now

Nov 01, 2017

It’s no surprise that the place where you answer nature’s call is also the ideal place for bacteria growth.

So how can we raise hygiene standards in your bathroom, specifically the toilet bowl?

Nailing the three core traits of an all-rounded toilet –hygiene, comfort and convenience—is simply a matter of installing a bidet. You will be surprised at how much innovations go into our Spalet products to make life better for you and your loved ones.

At American Standard, our range of Spalet products offer you a variety of manual bidets, electronic bidets and shower toilets to suit your budget, style and personal cleansing habits.

Hygiene

1. Anti-bacterial technology

E.coli (Escherichia coli) is a common fecal-borne bacteria, and when we're talking about toilets, they are the ideal platforms for contamination.

You can easily come into contact with E.coli and suffer conditions such as diarrhoea and abdominal cramping. Our American Standard range of Spalet products feature anti-bacteria technology on seat and cover, nozzles and the remote control panel so you have peace of mind. ComfortClean technology –a permanent layer of anti-bacterial glaze fired into the porcelain to prevent growth of E.Coli, odour causing bacteria, mould and mildew. The ComfortClean technology will also be applied to selected Spalet models in 2018.

2. Dual nozzle cleansing

As the saying goes, two is better than one. Dual nozzles provide dedicated front and rear cleansing, plus they are detachable for easy cleaning. Dual nozzles also minimize any risk of cross contamination. In fact, with an American Standard bidet, our nozzles are also self- cleaning and made from anti-bacterial materials. Some of our seat rims are also SIAA certified for anti-bacterial efficacy.

The ladies will delight in the fact that one of the nozzles is specifically designed for feminine cleansing, and comes with feminine air bubble function – the water is infused with air bubbles to bathe a lady’s delicate region in a comfortable and soothing wash. To further enhance hygiene standards, the dual nozzle tips self-rinse before and after use to remove all traces of dirt and bacteria.

3. Precise cleansing angle

Wouldn’t it be revolting to have water that was used for posterior cleansing be splashed back all over the bidet nozzles and toilet bowl? That is why our Spalets’ nozzles are designed to project water sprays at an angle larger than 70-degrees. At this optimised angle, the Spalet perfectly balances thorough cleansing and toilet hygiene. You don’t have to worry about backsplash on your nozzles or all over your toilet bowl.

Comfort

4. Cleaner than toilet rolls

Indeed, this poses a baffling question: Why do we wash our hands and faces with water, but not our posteriors? Spalets make a strong case for being a toilet essential that users never thought they needed, simply because of the comfort it offers – comfort that you can control to your preferences (water spray strength, water temperature etc). Plus, it is an absolute ‘posterior saver’ especially if one is having a bad bout of diarrhoea. Using a soothing stream of water to cleanse is more welcoming than repetitive manual wiping!

5. Safety in mind

The three pillars of safety standards –thermal, electrical and fire—are put in place via the use of flame retardant materials and built-in safety systems. Users can then go about their daily grooming and cleansing routines with complete peace of mind.

6. Heated Seat

In temperate climates, nothing displeases toilet users more than the shockingly frigid seats in the morning. In addition to the seat warming feature of shower toilets, the temperature can also be adjusted according to your preference.

7. Soothing users with medical conditions

Bathroom visits can be very unpleasant affairs for haemorrhoids sufferer, and this is where Spalets can come in to soothe such discomfort. Cleansing with a gentler water spray strength would definitely prove to be a much comfortable choice than aggravating abrasions with rough toilet paper.

Convenience

8. No more wet mess

Traditional dippers or trigger sprays do not offer much control and makes the toilet seat and floor wet. Wet and slippery floors can be highly dangerous especially with little children, pregnant mothers or the elderly in the house. With the Spalet, your toilet seat and floor (and your hands!) remain dry, giving you additional peace of mind.

9. Easy Installation

Manual and electronic bidets offer an easy upgrade to existing toilets and provide you with the perfect reason to elevate your personal hygiene experience. Everything You Need To Know About The Spalet

Q & A: Everything You Need To Know About The Spalet

Shower toilets are becoming an increasingly common feature not just in hotel rooms, but are also finding their way into homes. Are you thinking about installing a Spalet in your bathroom, but need answers to help make your decision easier?

We’ve put together a list of top customer queries and debunk common misgivings, to help users make a smooth transition from traditional toilets to innovative Spalets. Read more below.

FUNCTIONS

Why are dual nozzles better than a single nozzle?

An extensive research was conducted to find out what females thought about dual nozzles. 85% of respondents prefer dual cleansing nozzles as it provides dedicated cleansing for posterior and feminine areas. Dual nozzles provide dedicated front and rear cleansing for a more thorough posterior and feminine wash.

Dual nozzles also minimize any risk of cross contamination as they are self-cleaning and made from anti-bacterial materials.

What is the purpose of detachable nozzles?

The detachable nozzles make cleaning easier and they can also be easily replaced.

Why the need for a nozzle shutter?

The nozzle shutter enhances hygiene standards by providing a cover over the nozzles, preventing waste product (if any) from coming in contact with the nozzle tips. It provides an additional level of hygiene assurance for users.

A trigger spray can perform the same basic cleansing function as a Spalet. Why is a Spalet better than a Trigger Spray?

A trigger spray does not offer much control and creates wet mess both on the toilet seat and the floor. Wet and slippery floors may pose slipping dangers, especially with little children, pregnant mothers or the elderly in the house. With the Spalet, your toilet seat and floor (and your hands!) remain dry, giving you additional peace of mind.

Besides, trigger sprays are usually positioned right beside the toilet. This means that a user will need to twist his body around to reach out for the trigger spray prior and after use. With the Spalet, such inconveniences are eliminated. Manual levers (for manual bidets) and remote controls (for electronic bidets) are located on the side of the toilet seat, where the user can easily reach for and even adjust spray strength intensity, water and seat temperature etc.

What is the perfect cleansing angle?

A larger washing angle of more than 70 degrees has been proven to remove dirt more effectively. At this optimal angle, it also prevents dirty water from splattering back over the nozzles or around the bowl.

Can we adjust water spray and nozzle position of the Spalet?

Yes, our Spalet range of products have between 3-5 levels of water pressure adjustments and 5 levels of nozzle position adjustment. These are easily controlled by a user-friendly control.

What is posterior cleansing?

Posterior cleansing offers a strong, direct spray for thorough cleansing for the rear.

What is feminine air bubble cleansing?

The feminine air bubble cleansing is a dedicated gentle cleanse for ladies. This nozzle directs a gentle stream of warm, aerated water for a soothing shower over a lady’s delicate region.

Before using the toilet, do I need to activate the deodorizer myself?

Depending on the type of Spalet products, some of our models come with auto deodorizer, which is activated once the user is seated.

How does the Spalet help me save on utility bills?

You may activate the power saving mode on the control panel, which stops water and seat heating functions in order to conserve electricity. Cleansing and flushing will still operate. Original settings will resume after 8 hours.

SAFETY

I’m concerned about safety in the bathroom, especially with a shower toilet or e-bidet that requires electricity.

Our customers’ safety forms the backbone of our design processes, and rigorous testing and extensive quality checks are performed for each of our products. The three pillars of safety standards –thermal, electrical and fire—are put in place via the use of flame retardant materials and built-in safety systems.

What if there is a current overload, short circuit or device failure?

The main power and electrical components, such as the seat heater, have built-in safety systems that completely cut off electricity in the event of a current overload, short circuit or device failure.

I’m concerned about fire safety. Are there any precautions?

The heated seat, case, and circuit board elements are all made of flame-retardant and self- extinguishing materials. They are certified to meet the UL 94 safety standard in tests for flammability of plastic materials, for parts in devices and appliances.

Will the dryer be overheated?

The dryer is built with flame-retardant materials, and uses a thermal controller to keep air at a precise temperature. In the event of overheating, the dryer’s thermal fuse cuts off the heater’s electricity, making sure the operating temperature does not exceed the heat resistance of the case.

Are the Spalets backed by tests?

Yes. All our Spalet products have to undergo 30 safety assurance tests and 80 long-life durability tests, and meet 400 original INAX criteria before they are verified as quality assured.

CONVENIENCE

Is the e-bidet suitable for everyone in my family (e.g. children, elderly)?

The Spalet is made for everyone. Both children and the elderly can benefit from the following Spalet features:

  • One-touch Cleansing: Both posterior/feminine cleansing and dryer functions are activated consecutively at the touch of a button.
  • Automatic seat closing: The elderly won’t have to bend to open or cover the seat, and children won’t have to carelessly slam it and risk getting their fingers hurt.
  • User friendly remote control: Greater ease of use for everyone in the family with easy to understand function buttons.
  • In-built dryer: The memory function on the in-built dryer allows elderly and children to choose a comfortable temperature without having to adjust it again on future uses.
Dryer can also be adjusted to suit different preferences.

*Note: Some features may not be applicable to some regions and models.

Is it easy to install a manual bidet or e-bidet to an existing toilet?

Manual and electronic bidets offer an easy upgrade to existing toilets and provide you with the perfect reason to elevate your personal hygiene experience. We offer a list of best matching manual and electronic bidets for your existing toilets and installation is as easy as slotting the bidets on your existing toilet in a matter of minutes. And you can do this yourself! The bidet seat cover is also easily detachable for cleaning of hard-to- reach areas.

All products also come with installation manuals. Make sure that your choice of bidet is compatible with your toilet.

TECHNOLOGY

What is PlasmaCluster and what does it do?

PlasmaCluster is an air disinfecting technology which effectively removes bacteria from the environment. PlasmaCluster technology works just like your room air-purifier. It generates positive (+) & negative (-) ions, and releases them into the air. When ions come into contact with mold, bacteria or virus, they transform into OH radicals, instantly drawing hydrogen (H) from the proteins on the bacteria surface and breaking down the proteins. OH then combines with Hydrogen to form water (H2O) ions and this returns to the air.

*Note: PlasmaCluster may not be applicable to some regions and models.

What is seamless seat design? Is it just aesthetics?

The seamless seat design fulfils both practical purpose and aesthetics. Heated seats require two-piece construction, which usually results in a visible seam that collects dirt and bacteria. Through a unique INAX process, the seat’s warming element is encased between two stain- resistant resin pieces, resulting in a seamless seat that stays naturally clean. As there is no visible crevice between the two pieces, little or no dirt can accumulate, making manual cleaning minimal on your part.

What is comfort seat?

User comfort is one of our top priorities, which is why the comfort seat has been thoughtfully researched and shaped to match human curves for an ergonomic fit.

How can I enjoy the music experience of the Spalet?

Under the Spalet is an array of manual bidets, e-bidets and shower toilets. Currently, only the shower toilet models like INAX Satis S and Grohe Sensia Arena include a music function which can be activated via the remote control, to provide a pleasing environment for the user.

What is A Spalet?

Oct 10, 2017

Making small changes to upgrade your bathroom in a big way is not difficult. One way is to add a Spalet into your bathroom. You may also know it as the bidet, and they come in many models ranging from manual bidets to electronic bidets which you can conveniently install on existing toilets, or upgrade to a full-service shower toilet. Think of it as a mini spa that replaces your traditional toilet. With technologically advanced features such as posterior and feminine air bubble cleansing nozzles, automated seats, built in air deodorizers, and even music, you will be pleasantly surprised at this innovation and perhaps even wonder why it didn’t find its way into your bathroom earlier.

The question here is: Do bidets really clean better than toilet paper?

The truth is: A Spalet does more than just clean.

Hygiene Matters

Dual Nozzles

An extensive research was conducted to find out what females thought about dual nozzles. 85% of respondents prefer dual cleansing nozzles as it provides dedicated cleansing for posterior and feminine areas. Ladies will delight in the feminine air bubble cleansing as it provides a softer and more comfortable experience.

Dual nozzles also minimize any risk of cross contamination. In fact, with an American Standard bidet, our nozzles are also self-cleaning and made from anti-bacterial materials. Some of our seat rims are also SIAA certified for anti-bacterial efficacy and some nozzles are even detachable for cleaning.

Comfort is Key

Heated Seat

Consumers living in countries with four seasons will find comfort in heated toilet seats, and delight in being able to control the seat temperature.

No More Wet Hands or Wet Floors!

A Spalet is definitely better than a trigger spray. It provides better control in the water strength, the temperature, and you don’t even need to get your hands or floor wet. The latter is important especially if you have children or seniors in the house, as a wet floor might be an accident waiting to happen.

Deodorizer

The presence of a deodorizer really makes the difference in the bathroom environment. With a Spalet, you no longer need to wait for stale air to dissipate before stepping into the bathroom. Our carbon filters on most models eliminate odors and provide long lasting air quality. With the latest Air Shield Deodorizer and Plasmacluster technology in some models, you are assured of air purity.

Convenience Beckons

Easy Cleaning

With the Quick Release Seat Cover, you can clean hard to reach areas by just pushing a button to release the bidet seat and cover.

Easy Installation

The Spalet range of manual bidets and e-bidets are your instant upgrade solutions if you don’t want to change your existing toilet. You won’t need a team of professionals to make the Spalet a part of your home. You can easily do it yourself!

Auto Seat and Cover

There is really no need to touch the toilet seat and cover at all when you have a Spalet that is equipped with an auto seat and cover. This means better hygiene and increased convenience!

Aqua Ceramic – ‘100 Years Of Clean’

The revolutionary Aqua Ceramic technology has definitely taken the industry’s standards to a higher level. Aqua Ceramic takes care of dark ring stains and dirt stains with just the power of water. There is little or no need to spend precious time cleaning the toilet. So you spend the time doing the things you truly love.

The upside of all these are not limited to just better hygiene. A Spalet truly makes life more convenient for you and your family and provides you with comfort of body and mind.

Now the next question will be: Which Spalet will you choose from American Standard?

Your Extreme Enjoyment at Home Starts With a Push & Turn

Your Extreme Enjoyment at Home Starts With a Push & Turn

Depending on lifestyle habits, some people don’t put a lot of thought into the bathroom. They see it as a functional space to get the morning routine over and done with, so they can get on with whatever life beckons.

But the bathroom can be so much more. It can be a sacred sanctuary. Like a dandy spa, it can give you that extreme enjoyment you crave at the end of an excruciating work day! Imagine that sprightly step when you know you’ll be starting and ending each day right, just by investing a little more attention to the shower.

With a wide range of products like hand showers, overhead showers and body showers out on the market, it could be both confusing and daunting for beginners. Fortunately, American Standard has launched the brand new EasySET shower control, a bathroom fixture that provides you the flexibility to configure your shower preferences, and as the name suggests – easy to use.

Simply push to switch on, and turn to control the water intensity.

Intuitive push button

Homes are going smart these days, and why shouldn’t your bathroom be as well? While it is a matter of time before futuristic fantasies enter our homes, American Standard’s EasySET shower fixture proves to be the easy quick fix for your shower enjoyment. The usual way of turning on a shower is to lift the shower lever up and manually adjusting the lever to the left and right to get the optimum water temperature. With the EasySET, you can simply switch on the shower at a push of the button and adjust the water volume with a clockwise turn on the dial. The next time you step into the shower, all you have to do is push the button back on to enjoy the ‘saved’ shower experience, with your last preferred water temperature.

And the sexiest bathroom award goes to…

It goes both ways: there is beauty in practicality, and there is practicality in the beauty. That is what you get for your EasySET installation; it doesn’t just give you configurations possibilities, it also pairs up with the concealed thermostat mixer – a great addition that prevents fluctuations in water temperature — to give your bathroom a sophisticated, uncluttered and that made-for-each-other look.

The heart of the thermostatic mixer lies in our priority on safety; ‘ThermoSafe’ technology within the thermostat mixer is the real McCoy here, as it keeps the safety temperature up to 49°C, with an auto shut-off function when cold water supply fails, thus keeping scalding at bay. Like the EasySET, you’d only need to adjust to your preferred water temperature once and you’ll enjoy a comfortable, worry-free shower for your next showers.

The EasySET displays clear, indicative icons so you know exactly what to control if you have more than just a couple of shower outlets installed. Depending on how luxurious you want your shower to be, you can choose to include the hand shower, overhead shower, body showers, any combo or all three.

Home spa experience

There is an increasing trend of homeowners opting for spa-like facilities in their own bathrooms, so they could rejuvenate at the end of the day with extra convenience. That is why we offer users this very option of designing their own EasySET shower configuration.

EasySET offers body showers which make it even easier to indulge in a luxurious experience akin to what you would get in a spa, or a jacuzzi. You are free to tilt it to target body parts of your liking or install them at varying heights to suit you or your family members.

Consider yourself warned, though; we’d imagine with the handshower and overhead shower switched on, and with the body showers jetting out water to relax your body, no one would want to be leaving this DIY spa sanctuary you’ve just created.

American Standard VP of Design shares how American Standard is Raising The Standard

Sep 28, 2017

Since 1872, American Standard has blazed the trails of innovation in bathrooms, pioneering numerous breakthroughs that have inspired today’s bathroom wares. The iconic brand has been creating dependable sanitary wares and fittings for residential, commercial and hospitality projects, and its legacy continues today in numerous landmark projects, such as the iconic Burj Al Arab in Dubai and Beijing’s National Aquatic Centre (Water Cube), just to name a few.

Such successes boil down to one unwavering philosophy that has been held steadfast by the brand: Raising The Standard.

‘Raising The Standard’ is a belief that is embraced by American Standard on every level, from product design to performance to raising the standard of living healthily, responsibly and beautifully around the world.

Within the company, Design as a human-centered and problem solving approach is increasingly being utilized to address bathroom evolutions, and is used as a strategic tool across different touch points to provide beautiful products which function well, and also unique experiences which resonate with customers’ needs and aspirations.

Meet Antoine Besseyre Des Horts, Vice President of Design at American Standard, a firm believer that the goal of a designer is to create meaningful and relevant solutions to enhance people’s daily lives, both emotionally and physically. And the first step is to identify consumers’ needs and aspirations while keeping up to date with the latest social, environmental and cultural trends.

Intuitive design plays an integral role in the company. Every conceivable angle of bathroom products, from the architecture to safety features to environmental friendliness, is studied right down to the smallest details. Space is also becoming a luxury due to global urbanization, so people are increasingly looking for solutions which allow them to optimize space to the maximum.

The keen attention to detail is evident in innovations like the toilet seats with Comfort Curve, eco-friendly fittings, ergonomically angled faucet handles and the convenient ‘push & turn’ EasySET. Instinctive and forward thinking, the simple push button feature of the EasySET replaces the traditional shower lever to give users an efficient and enjoyable experience each time. Details like these are the building blocks to the perfect bathroom experience.

“By putting together the best design talents, and by going through a thoughtful design process, we are able to deliver exceptional bathroom solutions to consumers,” Antoine said. “At the same time, we believe in safe and comfortable solutions that provide peace of mind beyond performance. Bathrooms must be easy to use and clean, ergonomic, safe, provide a sense of well-being, and express one’s personal style.”
